"Julian! Get your butt over here!" your dad snapped.

Your boyfriend of six months, picked up his helmet and ran over to your dad, who is the head coach of the New England Patriots. Bill Belichick. "Give me ten laps around the practice field" he demanded for no reason at all. Everyone else was leaving the practice fields, ready to hit the showers. Julian complied, and started to run around the field in the sweltering heat. You glared at your dad. Nothing was different. Your dad couldn't stand the idea of you and Julian being together so he made Julian do extra laps or hit up the weight room.

Every. Single. Day.

One of these days you were going to go off. You walked over to your dad who was talking to the other coaches. "Dad, we need to talk." "Jayme, can't you see you see I'm in the middle of a conversation?" he questioned, shrugging you off as if you were a small child. You crossed your arms across your chest. "Go ahead and talk to your daughter Bill, we can discuss the plays later" offensive coordinator, Josh McDaniels, suggested. Bill sighed. "Alright, tomorrow I want to discuss a few things about the offensive line during the team's meeting." "Okay, you two have a good night" Coach McDaniels said. All the coaches left the field, leaving just you two and Julian running around.

"What is it that you possibly need to talk about now?" your dad inquired. "You know what I'm going to say, dad. Don't act like we haven't talked about this before" you countered. He looked through his play book. "Mhm.." he responded, not even looking. "Dad!" you snapped. A deep frown spread across his face as he looked at you. "I will not talk about him, Jayme. End of discussion" he replied, walking off the field. As soon as he left, Julian ran over to you, huffing and puffing. "Sorry for my dad" you started.

This wasn't the first time you had this conversation; it usually occurs every single day after practice. "I'm use to it" he panted. "It's really pissing me off, Julian. Making you do all these extra laps every day for no reason, he's acting childish." "He just has the best intentions in mind, baby. But he's not going to break me, I love you and will do whatever it takes to stay with you. No matter what your dad thinks" "Thanks, for putting up with my crazy dad"  you whispered, as he leaned down to kiss you. "Anything for you."

Julian sat on the ground trying to catch his breath after finished another fifteen laps. You shook your head at your dad, he was really pushing you. "Julian!" he yelled again. All the players looked on as your father told Julian to hit the weight room. You stood up and stomped over to your dad. "He is not going anywhere!" you exclaimed, standing in front of Julian. "Jayme, it's okay-" "No, it's not Julian!" "Jayme, go sit inside, NOW" your dad demanded. "No!" you screamed as Julian tried to pull you away. "You're always treating me like such a child! Like I don't have a mind to think for myself!" Your dad's face grew redder. "Or maybe I'm just trying to protect you! I just want the best for you!" he retorted.

You became quiet.

"...You're still my little girl, Jayme, I'm just worried about you..." You ran over and hugged your dad. "I just want someone who loves you and respects you for who you are." You pulled out of the hug and looked back at Julian. "He does, dad. Julian and I love each other" you added. Julian put his arm around you. "I'm really sorry for being so protective of you, Jayme. You're an adult now, and can make your own decisions, I forget that sometimes" your dad apologized. "And I'm sorry for being blind to see that you were only looking out for me." Julian kissed your temple. You looked up at him and smiled.

"So.." Julian began. "When can I start calling you dad?"

Your dad's smile faded and you cringed.

"Too soon?" he whispered to you.

"Yup."
