Me, Lucy, and Susan left the room and walked down the corridor and up a flight of stairs. Lucy told me all about the dresses that they had. Susan was the same height and build as me so they guessed we could wear the same size. Susan told me they kept some of her extra dresses in the bedroom where I would be sleeping. We landed on the floor where they had told me their chambers were as well as what would be mine.
"So, I am right across the corridor. Susan is to my right and Edmund is to my left. Your room is to the left of Peter's. Ah, here we are." Lucy explained. We stepped in front of a door and Lucy opened it. I stepped inside and was amazed at what I saw. It was the kind of room you imagine when you think of a medieval castle. There was a huge stone fireplace on the right side of the room with a crackling fire inside. To the left was a large wardrobe that I was sure held beautiful gowns. Right in the middle against the far wall was the biggest bed I had ever seen. Fluffy pillows laid on top of a red bedspread that looked like silk. On either side of the bed were French doors that were open, letting the fresh sea air into the room. I could hear the waves crashing on the shore and the sun was shining into the room, casting a brilliant golden glow upon everything. I saw Susan go over to the wardrobe and open it up. She began looking through the gowns, trying to find one for me. She pulled out an emerald green one.
"This one would look beautiful on you Elizabeth. Here, go try it on." Susan said, handing me the gown. I went behind the changing screen that was to the left of the wardrobe. I took off my jeans and t-shirt and slipped on the gown. It was off the shoulders and had a gold belt around the waist. An intricate design was embroidered in gold along the edges on the top of the gown. The same trim was on the bottom. I stepped out from behind the screen and around to the mirror that was on the other side of the wardrobe. I looked at myself and started to laugh a little bit.
"What's so funny, Elizabeth? You look beautiful." Lucy exclaimed. I turned around to face the two girls.
"It's just, in 2017, there's a film called Brave. It's a Disney film and it's about this princess in Scotland and she has red curly hair like me and she wears a dress extremely similar to this one. I was just laughing because I look just like her in this." I explained. The girls laughed and I went and sat down on the bed. Susan and Lucy came and sat on either side of me.
"So, tell us about what life is like in 2017." Susan said.
"Well, I am in my final year of university and I am studying history. By the way, the U.S. and England won World War II. I'm from New Jersey. I have a younger brother named Tyler. He is in high school. I'm 21 years old. Yeah I guess that's about it." I listed off.
"Oh! That's wonderful that we won the war! Peter is 21 as well. It seemed like he couldn't take his eyes off of you earlier. He kept blushing. I've never seen him like that. Even when princess from neighboring kingdoms came to visit. Their fathers were always trying to get him the marry their daughters. But he never liked any of them. They were all spoiled brats. But Peter seems to fancy you." Lucy giggled. I started to blush deeply. Peter was definitely handsome. I had a slight crush on William Moseley when the movies first came out. There was no way Peter could like me though, right? I mean, he was a king from the 40s. I was just a girl from the 21st century.
I was never really popular with boys. I was somewhat attractive, I guess. But my personality was a little off-putting. I was tougher than most girls and I was a little punchy. If one of my guy friends teased me, I would jokingly punch him. But my punches weren't exactly light. I would also much rather sit inside and read a good book or watch an action movie, instead of going out to the bars like most people my age. I had a few close guy friends but they were more like annoying brothers than potential boyfriends. The past few guys that I have liked have hurt me in some way. They either led me on and then told me they only liked me as a friend or they were just trying to get in my pants. Long story short, I had terrible luck when it came to boys. I finally shook my head, realizing I had zoned out for a minute.
"Why don't we leave you to settle in for a bit? I think Peter will be around shortly to check on you. We'll see you in the morning." Susan said as her and Lucy stood up and headed towards the door. She stopped once they reached it and turned around, looking back at me. "By the way, Elizabeth, I think you would be good for Peter. If you like him, that is. You're much better than the princesses he has met. Good night." She finished and shut the door. I smiled to myself, thinking about Peter. I got up and walked out onto the balcony and looked out at the sea. The sun setting beautifully, beneath the waves, tinting the sky with oranges and purples.
