They smile at each other from the opposite ends of the room. I pull on my skirt as I watch them carefully put up a blanket over both stereos and hold a remote closely to their hands'. So far they have agreed to these rules:

One song from each album they own

They must put all of their CD's in the stereo and play it via remote

They must cover the stereos by a blanket curtain

At least a minute of each song must be listened to

The owner of each CD is kept secret ( because Sage said I'd just pick Edmund's)

" Okay, the songs are ready." Sage says grinning. I smile at them as I hear the first one play. Edmund smiles at me as well as I hear the lyrics start.

Well I know when you're around 'cause I know the sound

I know the sound, of your heart

Well I know when you're around 'cause I know the sound

I know the sound, of your heart

Well I know when you're around 'cause I know the sound

I know the sound, of your heart

Well I know when you're around 'cause I know the sound

I know the sound, of your heart

Well I know when you're around 'cause I know the sound

I know the sound, of your heart

Well I know when you're around 'cause I know the sound

I know the sound, of your heart

I smile at them and pat my tights with the beat as they stop the songs. I look up at them as the second song starts playing.

Lips bleed from the rings

All these little bruises, the little things

That promote the segregation, lead to separation

Cage and clip the wings

Little noises, the little screams

That start the operation, conscious amputation

Just do what you do what you do what you did to me

Now I'm stuck in between a rock and nowhere

With nothing, with no one

Just do what you do what you do what you done to me

Draw the chalk like around the scene it's over

Now it's all over

I smile as the music stops. I slowly take off the headphones and look at each of them as I bite my lip. " They both had a nice tune, but I think I liked the second one more." I assure them. Sage stares at me as I shrug.

" The second one not only has a nice tune, but it seems to have a strong message. It seems like the singer is trying to get over an abusive but ending up in the same place." I reply. I notice Edmund's eyes flicker as they both smile at me. I watch them as the other song starts to play.

Maybe I'm crazy

What did I fall into

Lookin' for a key to a door that I can't get through

Just maybe

I'm crazy

Don't you know, don't you know I'm going under
