"Do you trust me?" I ask.
"Trust you? I barely know you." She plays with the sleeves of her jacket, just picking at the fabric with her nails.
"Is that a yes or a no?"
"It's a no, dipwad. I don't trust you. I don't trust anybody but myself." Well, there goes our little Aladdin moment.
"Not everyone is all bad, you know," I say, "Believe it or not, there are actually some pretty genuine people out there."
"Who says you're one of them?"
"Ouch, that stings. I thought we were just starting to get along, Grande."
"Like I said, I don't trust you. It takes a long time to earn my trust and you don't have that kind of time, now do you?"
"You just wait. I'm better at making friends than you think. I-"
"Is that why you only have four friends?"
"Well..." She got me there. "I just choose to have four friends."
"Of course you do. Just like you choose to be single, right?"
"Hey, I do choose to be single, for your information. Why have a girlfriend if there's nobody decent around here anyway?"
"Aha! See, you're my kind of guy."
"If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were flirting with me, Ms. Grande," I say, purposely mimicking her.
"Flirting? With you? In your dreams."
"Hurtful."
"Okay, okay. I have a question, and be honest here. I'm just curious." She smirks.
"Alright, shoot."
"If we were the last two people on Earth, would you kiss me?" Here she goes again.
"Why do you keep asking questions like this?"
"Like what?"
"Like, 'Are you a virgin?', 'Do you think I'm a virgin?', and 'Would you kiss me if we were the last people on Earth?'. Questions like that."
"I'm curious. Can you blame me? I've only got a week left, and I've made a new friend. I figure I'll get to know you while it lasts."
"No offense, but you're making it seem like you don't have the choice to stay alive. You keep saying that you want to live life to the fullest during your last week. Why not just live life to the fullest in general?"
"Of course I have a choice, but it's a choice that I myself have to make. While my heart wants one thing, my brain knows what's right. The day I decided that I wanted to do this was the day that my heart finally gave in. Every time I start to believe that things will be alright, I get something that's almost like a shock, in my mind. It's there to remind me that I've already made my decision and that there's no way I'm turning back now. Does that make any sense to you?"
"I think so. There's always time to make a change, and that's what I'm trying to do for you. I can save you if you'd just let me. You can get better."
"I know I can get better, but I don't want to. I can't just live my entire life in fear that things will get bad again. I have a negative mind. I never think of the good possibilities, I always have to think about all of the bad ones. It's what I do."
"I can fix that."
"Hit me with your best shot, baby."
"I will."
"On a different note," she says, smirking a little, "You never answered my question."
"What que- oh. That one. Hm." I glance at her for a second, then look back at the road. "Course I would kiss you, I'd probably kiss you even if we weren't the last two people on Earth."
