My eyes open. I feel so refreshed, so energized, so alive, so...lost. I dart into a sitting position so fast that my back starts to ache. My eyes adjust to the darkness as I look about the room. It is dark with only one unlit lamp hanging above something shiny on the wall. I am in a comfortable bed. It was very soft and the silk sheets felt like water swirling around my body.
The room is very elegant with light maroon walls and a small table covered with a white lace trim tablecloth. I looked at the window, which was covered by a thick, light maroon curtain, but a part of the window was peeking through them. I saw a shimmer of rainbow light pierce through the thick fabric, and I stared in amazement. I was mesmerized by its movement and how it turned colors; from red to blue, and yellow to green. I kept watching it for what seemed forever, until someone pounded on the door. I batted my eyes, as if coming out of a trance, and looked at the door. I saw a light protrude from the crevice underneath it and noticed two foot-like shadows blocking the light from my view.
Curious, I ask. "Who is it?"
A woman's voice answered, "I'm Ezmeralda. I'm here to help take you to the Romanda."
Why would I need help getting to a room? I wonder. Am I immobile or something? I wiggle my toes and move my legs for confirmation, and they respond perfectly.
I told her that she could come in. When she entered the room, I saw a tall girl, with a slim figure and shoulder-length dark hair pulled into a messy bun. Is her hair black or brown?
"May I help you miss?" She asked.
I pondered those words; the first words I had heard that weren't surrounded by confusion. Words I had a response to. Wait, no I didn't have an answer. Why can't I answer such a simple question? Why can't I remember anything? Why can't I remember anything?? The questions flooded into my mind all at once.
I must have given her too long of a pause to answer her. She looked worried.
"Are you alright?" She said with concern.
I shook my head. "No...I-I can't remember anything." I shouted at her, not feeling remorse for my loud response. "Why can't I remember anything!"
Ezmerelda tilted her head, as if thinking. "Maybe it's the medicine."
"The medicine?"
"Where is your home town?" She asked, changing the subject.
I searched my brain for any useful information, but I couldn't remember anything. I looked uncertainly at her.
Ezmerelda's words seemed to be muffled and I drowned her words out.
Her voice broke my current of thoughts. "You look really young. How old are you?" She asked, trying to break the tension.
I didn't know that, but it's not like I would remember.
I was so shaken up. I tried to calm myself down, so I looked around the room, and tried to notice every detail. I saw a mirror hanging on the left side of the wall near the door right below a lantern. That's what the shining thing was, right?
I completely ignored Ezmerelda's comments and questions and walked over to it, and looked into it. What I saw, is not what I expected. I expected...well I didn't really know what to expect. What I saw in the mirror was a face glowing with health. Literally glowing. I also had long cinnamon colored hair to my hips, fancily braided so that it would not be in my way. My eyes were a deep blue, with a touch of green surrounding the pupil, but they looked gray in the darkness.
