I was so busy trying not to move and hurt myself again to notice where I was. We were in a small house, about the size of the house we found the girl in, but not as dilapidated. We were in the main room where a small couch-like thing was hiding in the corner of the room. Its cushions were torn to shreds, its stuffing strewn all over the room. It had springs poking out of several nooks and crannies all over it. When I first looked at it I wondered why someone hadn't claimed it, but now I realize why.
"I'm feeling a lot better." Mason said. "How are you doing? Are you dizzy or anything?"
"I feel fine." I reply. "Other than the bleeding gash in my leg I'm doing perfect."
"Funny." Mason snickers. "Hilarious. A real knee-slapper."
"Are you done?" I ask.
"With what?"
"Being stupidly redundant?"
"Redundant? Where did you learn a fancy word like that?" Mason inquires. "Did you steal my dictionary? I bet you ate it too."
"Hilarious." I copy him. "A real knee-slapper."
"This is why I like you." Mason smiles.
I could feel my face turning red as I blushed, as did his when he realized the significance of what he just said. After a few minutes of silence, Mason breaks the quiet.
"I do like you." Mason looks at the wall behind me. "I just haven't found the right time to tell you yet."
"I like you too." I say. "I just don't know if there will ever be a right time."
"What do you mean?" Mason asked.
"In case you haven't noticed, we are in the middle of a situation. I-I just don't know if I can afford to gain any more relationships. Especially if they have a chance of ending quickly."
"Hey," he grabbed my arm gently but firmly, forcing me to look into his deep brown eyes. "I will never leave you." Mason assures me, just as I had assured him. I liked that about him. Sometimes he used unoriginal things that I had said to connect with me. It made me feel understood, for some strange reason.
My thoughts took a sharp turn towards what I needed to tell Mason. Actually, who I needed to tell him about. My brother. My heart started pounding. I have to get back to him. He is probably still at the Romanda worried sick about me and fighting shadow men. Now I have new information from my dream too. Something I can tell Ezmerelda and Dan about.
I wonder, should I tell them about Javex and Cody? I mean of course I can tell Dan, but Ezmerelda? Would she be jealous or hurt if I told her about me knowing Javex? Would Dan remember Cody? Who are Cody and Javex? Why are they in my flashbacks? They must be important to me if they were in one of my visions.
"Do you know Dan?" I ask Mason.
"Dan the scientist guy? Yeah. He usually volunteers for the D.A.P. to help with the sciency stuff. He's really important to the guy who created the DAP. Why do you ask?"
I feel so behind on telling Mason everything. "I believe," I take a deep breath and slowly let it out. "That he is my brother." I manage.
Mason stares at me. "Wait. What?"
I tell him everything. I tell him about my talk with Chrissi, my dreams, my blackout visions, Dan showing up while I was in the machine; everything. He listened intently to my every word, not speaking till the very end.
"Ahhh, so that's what was on your mind." Mason smiled in spite of himself. "So, You know for sure that Dan is your brother."
I nod, urging him to continue.
