I can't feel my legs. I can't feel my arms. All I can feel is my lungs, bringing in oxygen and releasing carbon dioxide. I can't sit up, I can't move. I can only open my eyes and listen with my ears. My body feels immobile, but my lungs feel full and rejuvenated. My brain also feels 'open' and ready to be full of information. I feel...relaxed.
I hear someone talking. It's Ezmerelda, but who is she talking to? The voice sounds like a man's voice. Maybe not a man's, per say, but more like an older boy; a young man. It sounds familiar, but I can't quite pinpoint it. I listen for any indications of who she is talking to.
"She's fine." I could hear Ezmerelda saying. "There is no need to worry! Why are you freaking out?"
"You told me her results were inconclusive!" I hear the young man say. "How can they be inconclusive?"
"She isn't awake yet. We can't tell if it worked."
"If you don't know then why can't you just say so? You make it seem like something that needs treatment every time you say inconclusive. You make it sound like something is wrong with her!"
He is talking about me. I know it. What else would he be referring to?
"She has a bubble in her brain! Something is wrong with her. Can't you just accept it? We are doing are best. You-"
"No more." He hushes her. "I don't want to hear any more. She is either going to be fine or she's not. Which one is it?"
Ezmerelda doesn't respond. I don't know if that means she doesn't know, or she does and doesn't want to say. "It's too early to be awake. You need rest."
"That sounds like something a doctor would say. Not my friend."
I am barely able to hear the last part of the conversation before I hear a thud and a bunch of noise. Before I know it I hear Ezmerelda shouting curses at the older boy and yelling for security. I hear running and the door to my room flies open. The boy's figure runs to the machine I am in, and, with my eyes squinted to see his face, I look up. I've met him before. He is the first boy I met when I first woke up. He's the first person that made sense to me. It's Dan.
I can see his hazel eyes clearly through the glass. They sparkle with tears, and surprise shines on his face as he sees me staring back at him.
"You know." He breaths out along with his puffing breaths. "You have always known. Please remember. Don't forget. Don't forget me."
I see two sets of hands, one dark and one light, grab Dan's arms and pull him away from the machine. The guards were pulling him out of the room. I could hear him yelling curses at them, but they didn't waver. Now the only thing left of him was the water vapor from where his breath hit the glass and his sweaty hand print slowly fading away as the memory of him slipped back into unconsciousness, taking me with it.
