Chapter Nineteen: Friends and Fights and Murders
***Embry's POV***
"I've been looking for you," Cedric whispered in my ear as he sat down behind me and pulled me back in his arms. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah," I lied as I looked out at the lake. We'd been back at school for a few days and I'd spent most of that time hiding at the lake or with Lupin in hopes to avoid talking to Cedric about the holidays after I'd gone to the Weasley's. I didn't want to start a fight between George and Cedric even though I was sure there was already an undeclared one. "I just like coming out here to think."
"Which is also when you're upset or something is bothering you," he kissed my hair. "What is it?"
"Promise to not start a fight?" I twisted around so I was facing him.
"I promise," he squeezed one of my hands.
"You know that George hasn't been too...fond of our relationship." I chewed on my lip. "He finally talked to me on Christmas and apologized for how he'd been acting. When I asked him why he acted like that he...he kissed me and told me that it bugged him because he liked me."
"Oh," I could see his jaw lock as he looked down at my hand that he was still holding. "What happened after?"
"I tried to tell him that I was with you and that I didn't feel the same way but he walked away before I could." I sighed. "He's been ignoring me ever since."
"I'm sorry that he's ignoring you," he seemed to be thinking over his words very carefully as he spoke. "I know that you guys were close like you are with Fred and Ginny. I'm not sorry that you like me though."
"Neither am I," I couldn't help but smile a little bit as I leaned in and gave him a quick peck on the lips. "I do need to go and meet Professor Lupin for a lesson though."
"Why does it seem that he's the only professor who's lessons you go to?" He teased as we got up and headed towards the castle.
"Because the other professors have let him teach me their lessons too, well except for Snape who seems to hate me." I shrugged as I slipped my hand into his.
"Don't let that bother you, Snape seems to hate everyone who doesn't have a snake on their robes." He gave me a little nudge as we reached the doors. "Why don't you come to lunch before your lesson?"
"That sounds nice," I agreed as I followed him into the Great Hall where my eyes instantly landed on a certain red head who's laughter stopped when he spotted me.
"Just ignore him," Cedric whispered before leading me over to his table where we sat down across from Hannah.
"Hey Lu," she smiled as I picked up a sandwich and took a bit of it.
"Hi, how were your holidays?" I asked between bites.
"Good I guess, kind of boring." She shrugged as she took a sip of her pumpkin juice. "How was yours?"
"It was nice for the most part," I couldn't help but smile as I glanced at Cedric next to me to see him smiling too. "I'm glad to back here though. I still have a lot that I need to catch up on before I take my OWLs."
"I've told you a hundred times, you'll do great on them." Cedric gave me a one armed hug. For the rest of the meal we all talked about various things and before I knew it it was time for me to go to my lesson. I hugged Cedric goodbye and kissed him on the cheek before hurrying out of the hall where I nearly collided with Lee.
"Sorry," I apologized.
"No problem," he assured me. "I haven't seen you around much lately, where have you been hiding?"
"I'm not hiding." I walked past him and continued towards Lupin's classroom but I could feel him following me. "Was there anything you wanted Lee?"
"What's going on with you and George?" His question didn't surprise me in the slightest. "At the start of the year you guys were just as close as you are with Fred, if not more. Now the two of you don't even speak to one another."
"Lee that really isn't any of your business." I sighed as I tried to be polite.
"Hell it isn't!" He snapped at me. I stopped at the foot of the stairs and turned to look at him to his eyes were filled with frustration. "George is one of my best friends and you're like a sister to them!"
"Miss Dobbs, Mr. Jordan?" I looked up to see Dumbledore standing at the top of the stairs. He was watching us over the top of his half moon glasses.
"Sorry Professor," Lee mumbled before walking away while I stayed put at the foot of the stairs.
"I'd like to speak with you and Professor Lupin now." Dumbledore waved for me to follow him and I did so quickly. He walked quickly through the halls before we reached Lupin's room where we found him sitting at the front of his classroom with an old piece of paper in his hands.
"Remus?" I almost whispered his name but he looked up at us with tired and anxious eyes. He didn't look at me though, he looked at Dumbledore.
"Take her with you Remus." Dumbledore said before leaving us, me in confusion.
"What's going on?" I asked him as I walked over to his desk to see that the old parchment in his hands was a map of sorts with people's names all over it. "Lupin, talk to me."
"I'll explain everything, just follow me and keep your wand out once we're outside." He grabbed my hand and pulled me through the castle until we were out on the already darkening grounds. I stayed silent as I followed behind him and kept my eyes locked on the sky in case of dementors as we approached the Womping Willow tree.
"Remus!" I hissed his name as he started to walk towards the killer tree but then I noticed that the limbs weren't moving. The tree seemed to be frozen so I hesitantly followed Lupin but I stayed cautious to the limbs.
"Stay behind me." He opened a door at the base of the tree and quietly entered it. I followed behind him, I could hear people arguing from somewhere inside so I instantly glued myself to Lupin's side in fear.
"You killed them!" I heard a familiar voice yell and watched as Lupin raised his wand and threw a door open to reveal four people in the room. I recognized Ron and his friends Harry and Hermione but it was the fourth person that made me freeze. He had long knotted black hair and dark eyes that seemed dull yet angry, he was also very skinny, pale, and wore old tattered robes. I was facing none other than Sirius Black.
"Professor!" Ron yelled at Lupin as I stayed hidden behind him and out of sight. I didn't pay attention to what Lupin was saying to the others but I knew that my hair must have been pale white because when Lupin moved towards Black and the others saw me Hermione's eyes seemed to go wide.
"Lu!" I hurried over to them as I noticed Sirius was watching me with confusion.
"What's going on?" I could hear my voice shaking as I looked back at Lupin. "Lupin why is he here?"
"Lu, control your hair." Lupin told me calmly. I didn't understand why he wanted me to but I listened to him and forced my hair back to its natural black color.
"Embry..." Sirius whispered my real name and I could feel my hair go white again.
"How do you know Lu?" Ron surprised me by being the one to speak up as I finally noticed his bloody ankle as he got up and hobbled over to us and stood in front of me and Hermione. I knew without them having to say though.
"The picture." I looked at Lupin and all he did was nod.
