Chapter 3

Danielle Connors

I walk to my health class with Adrian following me like the little obedient puppy we all know he isn’t.

How lovely.

I walk into our health class and walk straight over to my friend Emily. Emily is probably the only real friend that I have that is a girl. I know sad huh?

Anyways Emily and I met in Art class during freshman year and the day that she walked over to me to congratulate me for making the baseball team was the instant that I knew that this girl would be an amazing friend.

And I was right. I don’t know what I would do without her. As much as I love all the guys on the team, well almost all (Adrian cough cough), I need a break from all their piggish attitudes sometimes.

Also Emily is great at understanding what I’m going through and always knows when I need someone to talk to, that is why when I walk into our health class in a bad mood with a Greek God following she raises an eyebrow but doesn’t assume anything until I sit at my desk in front of her.

She waves her hand as if to tell me to bring it.

And so I do since we’re waiting for class to begin. I tell her all about Adrian and how I have a gut feeling that he is going to be trouble and everything else, all while Adrian is talking to our teacher, Mrs. Herring.

After my rant about how I know this is going to be a long baseball season I take a much needed breath and look back up at Emily awaiting her words of wisdom; however, what I see is not what I expected.

Emily looks at me with a smirk on her face that can only mean one thing.

I’m in trouble. Of what? I have no idea.

“You feel something for him.” She says in a sing song voice while wiggling her eyebrows making me laugh.

“Of course I do! I feel cautious of him. He could ruin everything that the guys and I have worked so hard for!” I reply passionately. I mean anyone who knows me knows that when it comes to my baseball you don’t mess with me.

“Not that you idiot!” Emily states and playfully slaps my arm, “You feel attracted to him.” She states in a matter of fact tone.

Again I laugh but this time loud enough to get the classes attention. By the time I calm down I have tears running down my face while Emily looks at me with a peeved off expression. Then I realize she was serious.

“Ems, you’ve got to be kidding me?” I ask but don’t wait for her to respond. “I mean yeah he’s good looking but he’s arrogant, annoying, suborn, and more!” I inform her.

“And that’s why you two would be perfect for each other!” she replies exasperated as if I’m stupid for not noticing this little fact. Unfortunately, I don’t get to respond to Emily’s ludicrous idea since the bell rings and Mrs. H. sits Adrian next to me and begins her lesson.

By the time lunch comes around I’m ready to snap at anyone who comes near me. Not only do I have to deal with Emily’s insane idea that Adrian an I would be oh so perfect for each other, but I have to deal with the fact that my English teacher just assigned me a five page paper about Aristotle’s The Aim of Man and connect it to the novel Into the Wild due by the end of the week, and I also have Adrian for three of the four classes I’ve had so far.

Today is turning out to be a crap day.

As I walk into the cafeteria I walk straight over to ‘our table’ and by ‘ours’ I mean the baseball team, and Emily of course seeing as she’s dating Ron. Did I forget to mention that? Oh well.
