A/N: the story will continue forward in 3rd person.

The moon shines brightly over the terrifying waste land nick had just begun surviving in.

1 more generator.

1 more generator.

1 more generator!

But where the hell was it . . . Nick though to himself. He and Ashlie were crouched behind a large haystack. The two were terrified beyond belief.

If they can't find the last generator . . . What will they do?

The generator was their only hope of getting out of this horrid place, even though soon after they'd be sent to another one, he still wanted to make it out knowing that they can do this. But his hope was slowly fading as Ashlie's eyes widen with fear.

A scream had rung out through the land, a scream that belonged to one of their friends,

One of them.

"That sounded like dawn!" Ashlie cries out, jumping to her feat and running over towards the way the sound came from. Nick quickly jumps up and grabs her arm, holding her back. She spins around, her eyes filled with worry and terror. Never once had he seen Ashlie so desperate.

"Let go nick! Dawns in trouble and we have to go save him!" Nick opened his mouth to say something when another scream rang through the area, loosening his grip on Ashlie's arms, she quickly yanks her arm away and makes a bee line towards the corn field.

"Ashlie no!" Nick runs after her, but he's not fast like her, he wasn't on the track team like she was. He faintly remember how happy she was when she made it.

_______

"Nick nick!" The young boy looked over at his little sister in annoyance.

"What do you want Ashlie." Nick was in 9th grade while Ashlie was in 7th.

"I made the track team!" She shouted happily, holding up the letter she had received. Nick couldn't help but smile, he to was hoping she'd get on.

"That's great Ashlie! How about I take you two out to get some ice cream to celebrate? What do you say?" The two gasped as their dad made his way towards them.

"Dad!" They both exclaim, running over and hugging him.

"I'll take that as a yes." Their dad smiles as he hugged them back.

What a happy family.

_______

Nick found himself almost chocking up as the memory came at him at full force. Holding back his tears, he realizes Ashlie had stopped in front of him, just standing there. Nick stops right next to her, looking down.

Dawns body layed there, a large gash in his side and on his neck.

Ashlie falls to her knees, letting out a bone chilling scream.

Nick had realized . . .

In the end, they were all made of flesh that can be cut, and bones that can be broken.

And sometimes, people fall and get up . . . They stay strong with the injuries

In other cases they fall and never get up.

And at that moment, nick saw the light leave Ashlie's eyes, even if she wasn't dead.

"Ash . . .?" Nick finally spoke, as Ashlie kneeled on the ground, holding dawns body.

And then she did the simplest thing in the world. She leaned over and kissed him.

It was like the whole world cracked in half for Ashlie. With an heavy heart Ashlie realized she just lost the love of her life. The one she put so much faith in.

And she began to sob.
