One year later

"Serena."

"Yes, Danny?" Serena asks, eyes focused on the road before her. They had a meeting today. Danny, Zayn and Serena. A meeting that would determine whether Zayn had beaten cancer or not. A meeting that would determine the rest of their lives-that would determine if Zayn would even have a life.

For the past three months Zayn had been in the hospital-under extreme medical attention. His chemotherapy was seemingly working but Serena wasn't his doctor anymore. It wasn't professional to be your fiancé's Doctor.

She had transferred to a different hospital. One where she didn't have to worry about the words uttered in the hallways. One where she didn't have to care.

"Is d-dad g-gonna be ok-k-kay?"

"He'll be fine, Danny. Which ever way he goes."

Serena holds Danny's hand, walking into the hospital building. They enter the elevator, pressing the level 4 button. Anxiety bubbled inside Serena as she taps her foot against the floor-her tall heels making a loud clicking sound.

"M-mom." Danny tugs on her dress. They had been standing there for five minutes, just staring at the wall of the almost empty elevator.

"Oh, sorry." Serena apologizes. They walk away from the elevator and into the waiting room. Zayn was siting there. His hair was slowly growing but not completely. He was blessed another year and hopefully everything continues along that route. Hopefully, he'll finally be rid of the horrible curse cancer had bestowed upon him.

Serena sat beside her fiancé, listening to the steady beat of his heart. "I love you." She told him.

"I'm desperately in love with you." His words spoke louder than his heart ever could.

"Mr. Malik." The receptionist calls. The Malik family quickly stand up and follow her down the white hallway. Hand in hand, they enter the office of Zayn's Doctor-Mr. Ortiga.

Zayn and Serena listened intently onto what the doctor said meanwhile Danny just stood there. Everything seemingly happened in slow motion. The tear that fell out of Serena's eyes were in slow motion too.

Danny's world seemingly went crashing down when the doctor told him,

"I'm sorry Mr. and Mrs. Malik. Mr. Malik, you still have cancer."
