Antilia

We gather a team. The Chancellor has agreed to meet with us.

Grant and Eva walk beside me. All of us are nervous. This could decide something very important.

As agreed, he will come alone. But I don't think he will be unarmed. But then again it isn't like we are either.

I shake my head and try to think of good thoughts. Thoughts of before I was brought into this strange world. My mother's radiant smile that always brought me joy. My friends who I told everything to. They're gone now. I wonder what happened to them.

"Are you okay?" Grant asks.

I nod not willing to speak. I could always leave. But it's not like I could travel back in time.

"Get down!" The wind turns above us. A helicopter. We're close.

"You keep him talking. I'll shoot him," Eva whispers. I nod.

There may be blood on my hands today but it will not be the Chancellor's.

We keep going until we come to a clearing. We are supposed to meet here but I don't see him anywhere.

I watch Eva and Grant go to hide in the trees. I take deep breaths. Mashta stands beside me stiff as a board.

"Where is he?" I ask impatiently.

"I'm not sure," she says. Suspicion lies in her gaze. She leaves to hide.

Then I see the bushes move. The Chancellor walks out. He somehow looks older than a few days ago. He has definitely aged. He must still be sick.

"Hello Antillia," he says.

"Hello," I stay where I am. This man frightens me. He's too powerful.

"Why did you bring me out to the middle of nowhere to talk?" He asks, disgusted at the setting.

" I...I'll go with you. I will help you find a cure for your disease.

"Really? And why should I trust you?" He asks.

"Keep him talking," Grant's voice crackle in my earpiece.

"Because I don't want to be with these...rebels," I say. I lie right through my teeth.

"Ah don't play me girl. There is some plan here," he says grinning menacingly.

"There is no plan. I swear," I say.

"Then why is there a boy in the trees?" He looks up and while he's distracted I hear a gunshot.

I look at him. He stares at me in horror. I look down at my hand, the gun shakes there. But there is a gun in his hand too.

What happened?

Then I'm falling. I land in someone's arms. I don't know who.

"Antillia don't die on me!" I hear a shaky voice. Not Grant but...

I open my eyes. Zakary stands over me. Tears gleam in his eyes.

"What happened?" I ask.

"Shh. Don't talk. You were shot," he says.

I look down at my chest. Blood is coming from a wound. The bullet almost hit my heart.

My breathing is unsteady. The world is blurry.

"Zakary," I whisper.

"Yeah?"

"I like you. I wanted you to know." I say. Now I'm crying. I know I'll stop breathing soon but I have to tell the truth.

He cracks a smile. That smile isn't fake. "I liked you too. And I know I shouldn't be able to feel anything but I know I like you." He says.

"I like you but this was never my world. My world was 200 years ago. But don't worry. I'll remember you." I explain. "Zakary you'll be a great ruler. Make this place better not the fear ruled world it is now."

My breath shakes.

"No don't leave me!" Tears spew from his stunning gray eyes. He leans down and his lips touch mine. It's soft, gentle like I'm porcelain that he doesn't want to break. I smile underneath it.

But it's time. I'm leaving this alien world. Everyone I ever loved was never in it. The sky goes bright as I go limp.
