Author's Note; not sure if I'm pleased with this chapter or not, but I'll be able to wrap everything in the next chapter. Enjoy :)
Part 3: Jay's Confession
Erin wasn't home yet when Jay arrived. He wasn't sure if that was a good or bad thing. He had been hoping she'd be home so he could get this over with.
That's all he wanted, to come clean and get whatever the outcome of his confession over with. He waited patiently for Erin's arrival.
He was sitting on the sofa when Erin finally arrived home. He took a deep breath as she placed her keys down, took her coat off, and made her way over to him. Before Erin could say anything, Jay patted on the empty spot next to him on the couch, wanting her to join him before he told her everything.
Jay took Erin's hands in his, even glancing down at them before finally looking into her eyes.
"We need to talk."
That's never a sentence anyone wants to hear, and with all the thoughts that had been going through her mind, she wasn't really too thrilled about them being said to her.
"Okay," She replied, nervously.
"I know there are parts of my past that I haven't told you, mostly about my father, about my military career, but there is one thing I've never told you," he paused for a moment, apart of him feeling silly about being so worried about the keeping Veronica from her, but it was mostly because he wasn't sure how she was going to feel about it.
"I know we came clean about past relationships, but there is one I failed to share with you," he started, noticing that Erin was already looking slightly confused, and maybe even a little irritated. "Back when I joined the academy, when I decided I wanted to be a cop, I was involved with Veronica. We weren't as serious as you and I, or as I think we are, but we were somewhat serious. I mean, we lived together, all that kinds of stuff, but one day, when I was on the job, she left me. No letter, nothing, unto why she left, she just packed up all her things, and left."
"Is this why you've been acting weird?" Erin asked grinning. "Yes, I wish you would've told me sooner."
Before Erin could say anymore, Jay stopped her. She was right, that part was no big deal, but what he was going to tell her next, was a big deal.
"I lied the other day, when I said I was with Ruzek. I was actually with Veronica," he paused for a moment, finding it hard to look at Erin now, as her whole demeanor changed at that last bit. He continued on; "She came by work, wanting to meet up after to talk. I agreed to it because it was the only way she'd leave. I didn't her causing problems at work. Well, we met for drinks that night, and well, made a few confessions to me."
Erin had to stand, she was getting angry as things festered inside. He lied to her, used their friend to lie as well, all so he could catch up with his ex. She was getting more pissed by the minute.
Jay sighed, he hated doing this, and she had every right to be angry with him. He was angry at himself for not telling her straight from the start.
"One confession was to her cheating on me with a mutual friend, and the second one was, well, to why she left without telling me," he paused, this was the part that scared him the most, how was she going to feel about this part, about the fact that he might be a father.
"She found out she was pregnant. She wasn't sure to if it was mine or Jack's, so, she left. Pretty much took the easy way out, so she didn't have to tell me about the cheating and that she doesn't know who's child it is."
"Is that why she's here? The child?" She asked, after a moment of cooling down. When she heard the cheating part, she had started to feel bad for being angry, but now, about the child part, she wasn't sure on how to feel.
"Yes, she wants to know who the father is." He answered.
"So, what does she want if it's your's? Does she want you to have a life with her?" Erin's heart was breaking at the thought. What if he was the father, what would that mean for them? Would it be the end, or just something they'd have to work through? Either way, she was scared.
Jay stood up and walked over to Erin, placing both hands on either side of her shoulders. He looked deeply into her eyes as he went on to say; "Erin, I'm in love with you, no one or anything will change that. No matter the outcome, I'm your's. My life, my heart, belongs with you. I'm not going anywhere. I promise you that."
Erin had wanted to get so angry with him, even argue, but in this moment, it was hard to want to do any of that. Honestly, she could just kiss him right now.
"Damn it, Jay," Erin started, giving him a frustrated look. "I wanted to get so angry at you over this, but now you have me just wanting to kiss you. It's not fair."
Jay grinned. "I'm sorry babe. I'm sorry about everything. This isn't what I want for us. Me keeping secrets and not telling you things. I just didn't know how to approach this."
"So, what's next?" Erin asked, wanting to know what he planned to do.
"Well, if it comes back that I'm not, hopefully, we can just go back to how things were, see this as a bump in the road, and if I am, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it," he answered, smiling at her. "I promise, no matter the outcome, I'm not going anywhere. We'll find ways to make it work."
It was funny to Erin, that in this moment, when she probably should be upset, she actually wasn't, and was looking at Jay with so much love in her eyes. They would overcome this. She knew it with all her heart that they would.
"I love you." Erin told Jay.
"I love you too," Jay said back, before giving her a kiss. "You know, they say make up sex is the best kind of sex to have," Jay added, wearing a smirk on his face.
Erin grinned, shaking her head at his comment. "Only you would think of that at a time like this. I mean, I should be upset with you right now, not telling you to take me to bed." Seeing Erin smirk after delivering that sentence, Jay wasted not one moment, as he picked her up, and carried her into the bedroom, kissing one another as they headed to their room.
They spent the rest of the night in their room, making love, holding one another, before passing out for the night. Jay had realized before falling asleep, that he had pretty much made a decision, he was going to do the paternity test for Veronica.
He called her the next day to let her know. Now, he just needed to go to Med and get this all over with. He was ready to move on from this and continue his life with Erin.
