June. 31,2016, almost midnight

It was hot out on the patio, outside in the crisp summer air. Dark.

It's not summer until July 1st, it's traditional. Because it's not fully summer with hot air and ice-cream melting till late June. Everybody in the house would countdown to July 1st as if it's a New year. July 1st is also the first day towards the end of the year, because 6 months had passed, and now everybody is looking forward to the last 6.

This was the last place anyone would look for her—anyone, and especially Peter. She'd miss all the excitement..

Thank God. Maggie should have thought of this years ago.

She leaned against Emily's house and started eating the sandwich she'd brought out with her. She could hear the music playing inside, and then she couldn't—that was a good sign. It meant that the countdown to summer was starting. Without her.

"Ten!" she heard someone shout

"Nine!" more people joined in.

"Eight!"

Maggie was going to miss the whole thing.

Perfect.
