Chapter 4- DJ's First Crush

It is now music class. DJ walked to class with Jay feeling a little more comfortable than before. It was quite a walk actually, probably as long as walking to one side of the school to another.

DJ hoped that Mark wasn’t in the music class. It made her think about Brian heaps more. DJ ignored the thought and kept walking with Jay. ‘So have you been in any performances?’ asked DJ carrying on a conversation.

‘Only Choir, Musicals and Talent Show’ said Jay continuing walking, ‘Talent Show?’ said DJ in excitement. She hoped that the school would appreciate her with her rapping skills in the talent show. It would help heaps for year eleven.

‘Yeah happens every year’ said Jay

‘Sounds excited maybe I could rap’ replied DJ with great dignity. DJ thought whether she could win or not.

‘Depends really, I mean I’m not saying you’re bad but Mark and his girlfriend Xena win every year’ said Jay a little upset. Jay did hate it when they would win every year and the judges did change but what did they have that she didn’t.

‘What does Mark do to win the talent show? Play the spoons?’ asked DJ in sarcasm. DJ felt mean saying it. She could imagine jocks in a talent show but right now she couldn’t imagine Mark in one, and she hadn’t met Xena yet. She hoped that she wasn’t one of those girls who want everything in their life.

‘No’ said Jay with a smile at DJ’s sarcasm but then continued her sentence, ‘Mark and Xena sing together’ said Jay. It hit DJ with a blast of surprise. She had to hear Mark sing.

DJ thought for a moment. It’s not a lot of times new kids make new friends on their first day of school and this was just weird. Who knew in one day she’d already know the coolest jock in school and make two awesome friends the moment she walked to the bus stop.

Before DJ knew it she and Jay had made it to the music room.

To DJ’s surprise Mark was there except not in the best state that she had imagined. Mark was over the blonde girl in a short skirt and singlet named Xena Randall that Celeste and Jay had told her about and they were making out. DJ’s heart sank and her jaw dropped to this sight.

It was utterly disgusting but DJ wouldn’t move. Just the way their mouths kept opening one kiss after the other. DJ breathed heavily. Jay walked back up to her and waved her hand in front of her.

‘Hey! Are you alright?’ asked Jay as DJ nodded back still staring at the couple. Jay pulled her away to a seat next to hers in the front row. Suddenly the teacher entered the room. The teacher was a woman and seemed like one of those loud and exciting music teachers.

‘Alright class settle down and take a seat’ she said as the class took a seat except for Mark and Xena who were still making out. ‘Thank you Mr Taylor and Miss Randall and Welcome to our school Miss Jones I am Mrs Edson’ said the Mrs Edson as they broke a part and DJ smiled at the teacher. Mark was in the desk beside her and to her surprise Mark turned his head to her.

‘Hey Deej’ he said politely but still acting cool. DJ did the head left because she couldn’t be bothered to lift her hand to wave. Once he said that his girlfriend Xena had alright responded.

‘And…Who’s this?’ asked Xena to her boyfriend with the girly voice and not to mention attitude. ‘Uh no one’ said Mark then leaning back. Xena relaxed in back to her spot believing her boyfriend.

DJ wondered why he didn’t even introduce her but then again Xena is one of those girls that she would least like to meet.

‘Alright as you know the talent show is coming up’ said Mrs Edson as already chattering started in the classroom. But Mrs Edson knew that when that happened the teacher just had to continue.
