That random rock music of the ‘starting school’ theme to it bounced into her head. It was a new atmosphere. The school was one giant building itself other than Maroochydore there are different buildings across the entire school and you would have to walk to different buildings to get to class.

DJ walked along the path way that was soon to be lead up to stairs then into the building. She froze as she walked halfway on the cemented path to the school doors. She looked around at every student.

It was like any high school movie. Jocks wore those vested jackets with the colour of blue, Geeks had their eyes in their books and discussing hard answers that they recall it to be easy, cheerleaders sat near the jocks so the jocks could check them out in their miniskirts and different other types of cliques were scattered in seats and on grassy areas in the school yard not to mention (to DJ’s disgust) some people were even making out.

DJ continued to walk towards the stairs, where Jay and Celeste were hanging. ‘Hey girls’ said DJ as Celeste and Jay turned their heads to her. DJ was surprised that Celeste wasn’t hanging with the other cheerleading girls; well nobody said you have to.

‘Hey Deej’ said Jay but then reaching in her bag to find her timetable. ‘I think we have Math first’ said Celeste in regret. You could see Jay was excited for it. ‘Uh what class are you in?’ asked Jay turning to DJ. ‘Uh 11A I think’ said DJ, ‘Coolies You’re in our class’ said Celeste as DJ smiled in delight. Great! I have my new friends in my first class.

DJ wasn’t too excited, she’d have to catch up with all the Maths that they have been doing for 10 and a half months and all the other subjects too. ‘I have to go and get my timetable, uh do you know where the administration office is’ asked DJ as Jay came back with an answer.

‘Oh we’ll walk you there, we have 5 minutes to the bell’ said Jay looking at her watch as they led me through the doors. The doors were those automatic ones like in shopping centres. The cool breeze blew through DJ’s hair as she walked in. In blue and white colours all the lockers were lined up in pattern. The sound of opening and slamming lockers came to DJ’s ears and also loud chattering.

Jay and Celeste lead DJ down the hallway and turned left then right to a wider hallway which had the sick-bay, principals office, deputy principal’s office and the admin desk. DJ couldn’t be bothered to spot the rest. DJ approached the admit desk with a fat lady sitting in the chair on the phone.

The lady had a pug like face and was looking very bored talking on the phone. DJ felt a little strange just standing there. She wanted to say something but she was on the phone, although she wasn’t really speaking into it. ‘Uh hi’ said DJ as the lady slowly raised her head and staring at DJ freakishly. She slowly raised her hand and pointed to the side where there was a piece of paper that DJ assumed to be her timetable a little book that read ‘2012 diary’ and a small paper that probably had the locker combination.

DJ grabbed it and walked quickly out. Gee that was nice!

DJ walked into the atmosphere of opening and closing lockers and chattering. She looked at her paper and it said 287 as the locker number. DJ looked around and it had numbers like 158 and 123. DJ had to go somewhere else.

It’s now Maths.  The room had beautiful air conditioning and the room had a few maths equations and quotes like ‘Maths is one giant equation that everyone can solve’. DJ sat there in the front row with Jay sitting in the desk beside her and Celeste behind her.

The teacher wrote all this writing on the board that we were meant to copy down. DJ had tiredly copied down the work. I mean DJ had every reason to be bored; my parents didn’t even leave a day of at the moment of their arrival early this morning.
