Arms are quite reliable indicators of mood and feeling, especially when interpreted with other body language.
1. Crossed arms (folded arms) represents defensiveness, reluctance.
2. Crossed arms with clenched fists indicates hostile defensiveness.
3. Gripping own upper arms is effectively self-hugging. Self-hugging is an attempt to reassure unhappy or unsafe feelings.
4. One arm across body clasping other arm by side (female) shows nervousness.
5. Arms held behind body with hands clasped indicates confidence, authority.
6. These are the 'barrier' protective signal which shows nervousness-
i)handbag held in front of body (female)
ii) holding papers across chest (mainly male)
iii) adjusting cuff, watchstrap, tie, etc.,
iv) using an arm across the body arms/hands
v) covering genital region (male)
vi) holding a drink in front of body with both hands seated,
vii) holding drink on one side with hand from other side touching or scratching shoulder using arm across body
Don't forget the exercise! *wink*
