Chapter 16

Cato POV

I haven't gotten over the fact that Katniss really thinks I am using her. She doesn't believe I love her. And I do. I really do. She doesn't understand that my feelings for her are something I've never felt before. It's crazy enough that we've let the poor, skinny, girl from 11 join us... Excuse me sorry, It's crazy enough that KATNISS has let the girl from 11 join us.

As I'm thinking to myself I realize I have woken up with empty arms. I've have awaken with no Katniss in my reach. Nor a girl on fire within my arms that are used to being wrapped around her so often that they have started to shake.

I don't feel good about this.

I look around and notice Gale and Rue are both here. But my eyes are only searching for one person.

As I move a little more the rope around my waist that kept Katniss and I tightly strapped to the tree has tightened as if something was weighing it down.

I try to move. That's not working.

I being to feel more and more weight pull down a strong force around my hips.

I look around and see that Katniss hasn't moved from our branch at all. In fact her rope is still tied tightly around the tree.

I start to feel something squirming. Something moving beneath me.

I ready my sword which has been positioned next to me all night.

I looks down the tree and notice nothing.

Until a swaying Katniss Everdeen comes out of no where.

"KATNISS!!" I scream not be able to get ahold of the fact she is dangling from a tree with her life in my hands.

She immediately wakes up. Along with Gale and Rue.

Right then a cannon goes off. That was bad timing. This infuriates Gale. From his point of view, it probably looks like I had pushed Katniss off the tree to attempt to kill her. In easier words. It looks like she is dead.

Gale is running towards me now at full speed. With a knife in his hand ready to kill me.

He leaps on top of me. Katniss sees this and screams at Gale.

"What are you two doing?" She says, "are you crazy?"

Gale looks down confused.

Katniss then realizes that she is hanging from a tree nearly 25 feet off the ground.

"Why am I hanging from a tree?" She asks calmly not wanted to cause any more mayhem.

"Katniss I'll explain to both you and Gale after. Right now you need to sit still and hold on tight." I tell her.

She nods as she grabs ahold of the rope.

"Gale. Please. This is the one time I'm asking you for help. Grab that side if the rope and I'll grab this side." I say, while pointing at the rope.

Hesitates for a moment and the grabs it as if he couldn't come up with a response.

We both start pulling. Katniss' life is in our hands. Gale and I just need to work together for a few moments.

Finally we get her to the top where our camp was.

She unhooks herself from the rope and then wraps her arms around my neck. As if she was saying 'never let go of me'

But that moment ended quickly.

"Why was I dangling from a tree Cato?" She asks with a serious face.

"It wasn't me I swear." I say with a uneasy voice which makes it even harder for her to believe me.

"Listen. You must have rolled of when you were sleeping. I woke up and you were gone. I nearly died of a heart attack." I say defensively.

Her expression softens.

"Who do you think I should believe? You.. Or the tree?" She grins.

I laugh with relief. I'm glad to know she trusts me more than the tree.

Writers note: sorry for the short and sorta lame chapter. I need to get caught up on this book. And fast.
