Chapter 11 - Lapidot

"Wait, you haven't met them yet?" Steven gasped in a surprised manner. You shrugged your shoulders lazily.
"No, I guess I haven't." It didn't bother you as such but Steven seemed determined to bring you to their home.

He shouted over to his Dad who was just playing around with his guitar. Mr. Universe came over to the two of you.

"What's up?" He asked casually yet enthusiastically. You could see where Steven got it from.

"Dad! (Y/N) hasn't met Peridot and Lapis yet! Can we go see them? Pleeeaaaase!!!" Steven gave his Dad his best puppy eyes that even Garnet couldn't resist. Greg looked over to you and you just shrugged with an awkward smile and a small chuckle.

"Alright then. Just let me pack some things." He sighed and finally gave in to his son's facial persuasion. Mr. Universe started to pack more items into the back of his colourful van while an idea sprung into your mind.

"Hey, Steven. Do these two gems eat? We could buy them donuts."

"That's a great idea! But they don't really eat that much." He frowned at your thoughts until you came up with another one.

"Well, I could make them brownies. You know, if they're willing to try new things." You suggested, Steven's eyes lightening up.

"They try lots of new things everyday! I'm sure they'll love to talk to you and try your brownies." Steven agreed with you contently.

Quickly, you scuttled away to your house to make the brownies as fast as possible. You bumped into Pearl on the way to your street and she seemed keen to keep in conversation.

This is gonna make me late...

But you could always invite Pearl as well...

"You all set in the back?" Mr. Universe called from the driver's seat. You rested the tray of brownies down into the floor of the van and made it balance.

"We're good, Dad." And with that assurance from Steven, we were off. Apparently, the journey would be a bit long so you brought a pillow as you slept at every opportunity given.

You rested against the wall but as you fell into unconsciousness, your head grew heavier and dropped onto Pearl's shoulder. She let out a little yelp as she obviously wasn't expecting this to happen. Steven didn't notice and continued to read his lastest library book.

Pearl nervously looked down at you but the tension was lifted from her body when she saw your peaceful face. Right now wasn't the most dashing you've ever looked but it made Pearl realise how much she liked you for you. No make up, no gem, no magic.

She had experienced this feeling with Greg, Connie and other humans of beach city but it felt a little bit different now. A strange feeling at that - what feeling makes your non-exsistant stomach tingle? Your heart beat quickly? Your eyes stare at certain features?

Pearl was sure this was what it was like between Rose and Greg. Constantly being close to each other, always happy with a moment never dull. Was it the same? Pearl didn't really know and she got lost in her peculiar thoughts.

Without being prepared, the van jolted to a sudden halt. Steven managed to remain balanced but with your added weight, Pearl fell to her side, you falling on top.

This awoke you and you quickly scrambled to your knees and rushed off of Pearl. A blue hue was plastered on her cheeks which made yours blush pink. At least it was just Steven watching and he was too innocent, right?

"We're here!" You heard Greg announce from the front of the van. The back doors were opened so Steven jumped out, Pearl following and you escaping after her. Your feet landed on soft ground in a large shadow.

In front of you was a large, red barn. It had half of some sort of truck on the front with two gems sitting down in it watching TV. The blue one looked at the screen bankly and got distracted away from the programme by birds. You guessed this was Lapis. The green one proudly made witty comments about the show and enthusiastically stated at the television.

"Lapis! Peridot!" Steven shouted to them joyfully. They both noticed and smiled. Lapis picked up Peridot from under her arms and wings made of water emerged from her back. She flew down and set the green one on the ground. Her slight smile turned into a scowl when she saw you.

"Steven. What's that doing here?" She glared at you but Steven's innocence left him oblivious. "That, that human. Who and what is she? Why is she here?" Lapis spoke poignards and every word stabbed.

Pearl noticed your confusion and hurt. "(Y/N), meet Lapis and Peridot. Lapis and Peridot, meet (Y/N). She's our human friend!" Pearl patted you on the shoulder which made you flinch. Just being around Pearl made you jumpy.

"Pleasure to meet you, (Y/N). Due to my natural talents and growing skills in friend making with humans, I'm sure we will get on just fine." Peridot announced. Lapis just frowned with her arms crossed and avoided eye contact. "Let's give you a tour or whatever." Lapis murmured. You looked over to Steven who just shrugged. You looked over to Pearl and she squeezed your hand with a warm smile. Pearl always cheers you up.

"Sounds great!" You said enthusiastically, trying to lighten the mood. Lapis stayed silent and walked inside the barn. Peridot beckoned you in. At least she seemed friendly.

"This is a leaf Steven gave me. It reminds me of when Steven gave me a leaf." Lapis showed you a leaf that seemed to be on a stand, as if it were a museum's display. The way she worded it made you laugh a bit but instead of her being insulted, she smiled.

"I did say that weirdly." She simply stated. Well, that's progress. At least Lapis was more positive.

They were almost complete opposites when it came to personality and attitude. Peridot was excited to meet you and seemed confident to talk to you whereas Lapis was introvert in a rude way. They complimented each other in this way and were close which you found quite cute.
