Laughing children I see,
as my dreams roll on.
I see wide smiles
and skipping ropes.

I see happiness I am
unable to fathom
and the life I always desired.
Envy taints my vision
as I watch them all grow up.
I see the fond smiles on their parents faces.
Smiles I never saw on my own.

Their freedom
overrules mine
by plenty.

I watch their smiles,
with my own
non-existent as ever.
