Eternal

Chapter 7

Soon she gathered the courage to see fair Endymion and went towards his cave. Like all the times she had she entered the cave silently and sat beside Endymion. But this time it was a little different. This time she didn't have a smile on her face when she saw Endymion but tears. She had thought that she was out of tears for now but she was proven wrong. The cave was pin drop silent without the small sobs coming out of the goddess of the moon who had finally lost all her hope. She lay across her fair lovers chest and sobbed before drifting of to sleep.

They say with morning comes hope. But this lovely morning poor Selene had no hope. She was going to ask Zeus one last time to help but if he refused to, she wasn't going to plead. She was done pleading. Maybe this was her fate. This was her punishment for some crime which she had done decades ago. The punishment being to watch your love lay almost lifeless for eternity yet breathing but never really being alive. Selene was done crying. She was going to spend her whole day with her sweet lover and the next day she would go to visit Zeus.

After sometime of simply laying beside Endymion and playing with his hair Selene got up. She was about to change her position when a figure came into the cave. Selene stiffened and was ready to attack if ever this man tried to do anything to her Endymion.

" Calm down Selene. Its me. "

Said the cold voice of the hooded figure which was none other than the pale man. The figure removed his hood to unveil the sad and gloomy night sky eyes of the pale man. He looked a little different now. His hair were all dishevelled and his face was paler than it had ever been.

" What have you come here for? "

Selene asked stepping in front of the sleepy body of her Endymion. The pale man smiled at this and started.

" I have come to help you. Last night I realised that it wasn't your fault that my life had been through so many ups and downs. It wasn't in your hands to change fate, to change destiny. I had seen all my lovers drive themselves crazy and they all had died in the end. I could feel the pain you felt yesterday. How much it must hurt to watch your lover in such a helpless condition. "

The sadness in the pale man's eyes never faded and he looked way older than he was.

" Come to help? "

Was all Selene could say. The pale man nodded and came forward to see Endymion. Selene slowly stepped aside to give him the way. The pale man looked at Endymion and gasped.

" So the tale of the eternal sleeper Endymion is true. "

He said and started checking his eyes and his heart beat. After some time the pale man stood up with a sad look.

" You are right. I can wake him up but let me tell you one thing Selene. If I change the destiny of him being asleep for eternity then I will also be changing his destiny of living for eternity. You see, if I wake him up he will become the mortal shepherd he used to be. "

Selene thought about it. She couldn't stand any longer to witness her lover asleep and not seeing those ocean blue eyes. But the thought that she will lose him forever one day scared her. She didn't want to lose him but how much longer could she go without seeing those eyes?

" You may proceed with whatever it is that can wake my love up. "

The pale man nodded and started working. Selene had never thought she'll see this day when her sweet Endymion will wake up from his eternal sleep. But Selene could not stop thinking what will happen when he dies. She knew that she wont die ever, and that felt like a curse to her now. The immortality had never felt so bad and now it will be a lonely time when her love dies. The thought was enough to scare her to the bone. She blinked her eyes trying to hold back the tears of losing her love and looked at the pale man.

He was a great thing to distract her from her thoughts. His skin was not like the way it had been. Earlier it used to be so smooth and soft but now it had scratches and burns like a reminder of the hardships he had been through. The pale man moved his arm to show a particular cut which didn't seem accidental. It looked as if the man had deliberately cut himself. And may be he had, when he couldn't bear the loss of his loved ones anymore.

Selene looked away from the pale man to see that Endymion was finally waking up. He opened his blue eyes slowly.

So....he is finally awake! Hmm..the things that's gonna happen ahead are a feast for me. It is sooo much fun writing what happens after the sleeping beauty waking up. Love you all!
