Chapter 13 - Yes, you are important for me
If I had known that he would be standing in front of me at exactly 14:33, I would have jumped out of the window at 14:32, so that he wouldn't see me. I admit, there is no need for exaggeration, but I probably would have made sure that I at least look fine. Right now, I was looking like a disaster.
"Jonghyun?"
"Yes, Soo min" he said as he placed the snacks on my table and showed me a bright smile. "What are you doing here?" I asked shocked. "Well, why wouldn't I visit my sick friend?" he stated in a matter-of-fact tone.
"How are you feeling?" he asked and sat down on my chair. "Better. Better than before. You don't have to visit me, it will be boring with a sick person" I said and covered myself with a blanket.
He took one snack from the bag, took off the wrapping, and ate it. "I don't think so, I want to stay with you" he said and I just sighed. "I look like terrible" I murmured under my breath, intending only for me to hear it.
"You look fine to me though" he said and I realized that he had heard it too. "Yah, I thought these snacks are for me, you are eating them all by yourself." I said and changed the subject. "We can share them" he said and came towards me, sat on my bed, opposite of me, unwrapped a mini-bread snack for me, and handed it to me.
I took it gladly and started to eat it. "How did you know that I am sick?" I asked. "You didn't come to school, so I called you thousands of times, but you didn't pick up your phone. So, I had no other choice. I called your mother and asked about you" he said.
"Firstly, my head was hurting, and the notifications on my phone were irritating, so I turned my phone on silent and secondly, why do you have the number from my mother?" I asked shocked. "Of course I should have your mother's number. You should always have emergency numbers for important people"
"Important people?"
"Yes, you are important for me" I was shocked by his sudden straightforwardness. "Okay..." I said and continued eating. Forty minutes later, we were playing ludo and I had lost three times already. "I may have lost this time, but I will win the next round." I said with motivation.
"Not again" he said. "No, we have to play again" I insisted. "How many times have we played now?" he asked. "Come on" I pleaded. "Fine, but you should know that I am only doing it because of your irresistible face. You look too cute" he said and my eyes widened. I could feel my cheeks burning and my stomach having a weird feeling.
I remember having similar feelings when Oliver used to talk to me. But now, it was different. The feeling was stronger and right now, my heart is beating twice as fast as when I was with Oliver.
"W-What? What's gotten into you?" I asked, trying not sound nervous. "Nothing much, but after going to the trip, I realized some stuff" he said. "And that is?" I asked curiously. Does it have something to do with Sawako's confession? "Just some stuff" he said and ruffled my hair. "Hey!" I said and looked at my ruined hair, not that it looked good in first place.
Suddenly, we heard his phone vibrate and he looked at it. "Sorry, I have to go now." He said and stood up. "Where?" I asked. "I totally forgot that we are flying to Japan tomorrow, I have to pack my bag"
"Oh, fine. Have a safe flight" I said and smiled. Minutes later, he was gone. After some hours, I felt like a newborn person and decided to attend school tomorrow.
The next morning I went to school with a sleepy eyes. I couldn't sleep the entire night because I was writing my story. My story had reached the climax and I didn't want to stop writing. "Soo Min!" I heard Minji say in a loud voice and she gave me a bear hug. I hugged her back and smiled. Seems like I've made pretty good friends.
"Do you know how worried I was?" she said and pouted. "Sorry, sorry" I apologized. Out of the nowhere, Siwon came up and slung his arm on my shoulder. "There is no sorry between friends" he said and I chuckled.
"Is it a habit of yours to pop out of the nowhere?" I asked mischievously. "Of course, that's what makes me special and memorable" he said and we all laughed.
"Don't worry, your appearance alone makes you special" I assured and we went to class. Classes were boring like normal. The only people I hadn't seen were the SHINee members, probably because they went to Japan.
It was lunchtime and I was enjoying my spaghetti with Minji and Siwon when I got a text massage.
[(Baekhyun) Hey Soo min how are you feeling? Because you got sick on Monday, you couldn't tutor me, so I was wondering if you could tutor me today. Let me know if it's okay for you]
I completely forgot about him. I replied to him with an 'okay' and carried on with my lunch. After School, I was waiting for him in our classroom, getting bored and that was when I saw the door opening. "Sorry, I am late. I had an interview to attend, that's why" he said out of breath.
"Doesn't matter" I said and smiled. "So can we begin?" I asked and he nodded. "I am having trouble with writing essays, can you help me with that?" he asked as he placed his books on the table. "Sure" I replied and we started with studying.
"Finished" I said after we were done with our work. I looked at the watch and saw that it was 16:22. "Thank you very much. I kind of feel like you explain better than the teacher." Baekhyun said and we laughed. "Thanks" I said and packed my things.
"Hey, wanna grab something to drink?" he asked and I wasn't sure what to answer. "I feel like drinking coffee" he added. "Sure" I said and we walked to his car. "Are you sure that nobody will recognize you?" I asked. "No, nobody can enter this school and when we will be outside the school, nobody can see us. The window glass is made out of a special material. We can see the outside, but the people from the outside can't see the inside" he explained.
"Okay" I replied and got into his car. He also got in and started to drive. For the first five minutes, there was an awkward silence between us, but slowly we started to get into a conversation and the ride seemed to be a pleasant time. We went to a coffee shop and ordered coffee and sat down.
"What? You accidently pulled the teacher skirt? So what did she do after that?" he asked amused. "She threw me out of the class! I got detention for a week." I said and we both laughed.
"I actually miss New York. It had lots fun there, with Hana and Oliver" I said and sighed. "Well, you will be seeing them soon right?" he said and remembered about them. "Oh right, they are coming"
"When are they coming?" he asked. "1st February." I replied. "Wait, isn't that in two days?" he asked and I nodded. "They will be staying with us" I added. I looked at my watch and realized that it was already 17 o'clock. "I actually need to go now, Baekhyun. Thanks, I had fun today" I said and got up.
We parted our ways, I went to the bus stop and took out my phone, expecting to see a massage from a certain someone, but was disappointed to see that I hadn't received one. He was probably busy.
Sighing, I decided to text first.
[(Me) Hey Jonghyun, how are you doing?]
Just only in some seconds, I heard my phone receiving a message. Damn, he was fast.
[(Jonghyun) Annyeong! I am fine and you? We are currently practicing for our concert.]
[(Me) Hope you do well, fighting! Hana and Oliver are coming soon, so I need to start preparing for that.]
[(Jonghyun) Are you sure that you are ready to meet them?]
[(Me) I think I can handle them.]
[(Jonghyun) Good luck!]
I looked up and saw an unclear sky. Raindrops started to fall and the wind bushed by my skin,
