Cameron -

It had been days since I had spoken to Lexi. No matter how much I tried, she still found a way to avoid me. I felt like my heart had been ripped out of my chest. It seems crazy that only around a two months ago, Lexi and I were in love. I keep telling myself that somehow, Lexi will come back to me. But, now I don't think that will happen.

My train of thoughts was interrupted by Taylor Van: the captain of the basketball team.
"Hey, Cameron. I heard you're good at basketball. Why don't you come try out for the team?" He said, siting at the desk in front of me.
"I'm not that good to be honest. I'll pass on that one," I replied, tapping my pencil against the desk.
"Come on. Just try out!" Taylor pleaded.
"Alright, alright," I replied, giving in to Taylor's constant begging.
"Try outs are after school tonight, in the gym," Taylor said, turning around. I nodded my head gently. Great.

"Okay guys. We all know why your here. You want to be as good at basketball, as us," Taylor started, holding a basketball. He was talking to about five other boys. Most of them I had never met before. "First of all, we are going to start off with some basic dribbling," Taylor yelled from the back of the gym. "I'll demonstrate," He began bouncing the orange ball and walking towards us. He was good, but kept his eyes on the ball, which is wrong. The other team mates were sitting on the benches, drink Gatorade.
"Taylor, your doing it wrong," I interrupted. The whole gymnasium became quiet.
"What?" Taylor snapped in frustration.
"You see, if you are dribbling and your eyes are on the ball, you won't see the other team come up to you and take it," I told him.
"Well if your so smart, lets have a little one on one game. See who's best then," He suggested. I used to play basketball with my dad before he died. I'd never really played since then.

The other boys who came for an audition had sat down on the benches. George, one of the boys in the team, had a whistle around his neck and a basketball in his right hand. I was stood opposite Taylor. He was bent down slightly, glaring into my eyes. He looked like he was about to pounce on me as if he was a lion attacking it's prey.
"First person to 10 wins," George said bluntly. "Rock, paper, scissors for first throw," He finished. I jerked my hand three times then tightened my fist to make a rock. I won.
"3, 2, 1," George said, blowing the whistle. I bounced the ball, placing my arm in front of me. Taylor was stood in front on my, still crouched slightly. I went to move for his left then quickly moved to the right having a clear shot. I jumped slightly, throwing the ball carefully and watched it shoot into the net.
"2:0" George shouted. We walked back to the middle. This time it was Taylor's turn to start. The whistle was blown and Taylor ran through the middle. I stopped him half way. He still kept his eyes on the ball, which made it easier for me to snatch. I ran down the line, dribbling. Somehow, Taylor beat me to it. I showed off a little bit by bouncing the ball behind my back and through my legs before shooting once again.
"4:0" George shouted again.
"We know the score, George," Taylor snapped.
This carried on till my score was at 8. Taylor had still got none.
"We could finish this now, wouldn't want to humiliate the captain, would we?" I said in a cocky tone, bouncing the ball in my left hand.
"I want to finish the game," Taylor replied frustrated. I shrugged. I ran towards my net, but tripped on the way. I fell over, dropping the ball. I saw Taylor quickly running to get the ball. I jumped up, staying in the middle of the court, waiting for Taylor to approach me. He ran to the three-point arc and stood there. I jogged up to him and stood there. He moved from my left to my right, but didn't fool me. I still was able to get the ball and sprint to the opposite net. I ran right up to the net, jumping to slip the ball into the net, hanging from it in success. Taylor walked over to me and stared. I let go off the net and stared back at him. He laughed.
"Your good," Taylor smiled, offering his hand to shake. I accepted his offer and shook his hand laughing back. The other team mates came over and patted me on the back and gave me a bottle of Gatorade. For one moment, I had completed forgotten about Lexi.

"Your back late," My mum said, placing plates onto the table.
"Yeah, I was at basketball tryouts," I replied, putting cutlery onto the table.
"Basketball? You haven't played that since..." My mum trailed off, dishing up spaghetti onto my plate.
"Yeah, I thought I'd try out," I said, pushing spaghetti into my mouth.
"Well, did you get in?" She asked, copying my actions.
"Mmm," I mumbled. She nodded her head in approval. There was a silence between us both.
"Lexi's mum popped round earlier," My mum said, breaking the awkward silence.
"Really?" I said, nearly spitting the food in my mouth out.
"She came to say how Lexi is getting better and remembering,"
"That's good," I replied, bluntly. I finished my dinner and leant back in my chair.
"She also said that they're moving away," My mum mumbled. My heart stopped. I coughed up the water I had just been drinking. Was she being serious?
"There not moving for another month or so, Cameron," My mum reassured me, patting my back to help me stop coughing. I jumped up from my chair and stormed out the house. I climbed into my car and drove to Lexi's house. When I arrived, I saw Gracie out in the front garden playing on her slide. When she saw me, she screamed, and ran up to me.
"Camwon! Camwon! Camwon!" She squealed. I picked her up and squeezed her tightly.
"Hello, Gracie. How are you?" I asked her.
"I've missed you so much, Camwon!" She mumbled into my shirt.
"I've missed you too, Gracie," I said. I hugged her once more, before seeing Lexi standing in the doorway. She was lent against the doorframe, smiling at us. I put Gracie down and walked towards Lexi.
"Why haven't you told me your moving," I asked promptly. Her smile turned into a frown.
"Gracie, go inside," She said, shutting the door behind her.
"I didn't want to upset you," She replied.
"And ignoring me for days isn't? So you were just going to leave? Without saying goodbye,"
"Cameron, were not leaving for a week yet-" She crossed her arms as a cool breeze blew.
"A week!? Your leaving in a week? Where are you moving to?" My heart was beating fast. Too fast. My breathing was in short puffs as I listened to her. I was in so much shock that I didn't even realise the rain.
"I'm moving to New York,"
"New York!? That's hours away!" I yelled. The rain had gotten heavier.
"I know, I'm sorry. I don't want to move! It's not my choice," She shouted over the rain pour. The droplets in her hair made her so beautiful. She was about to talk again, but I stopped her by kissing her.
