Chapter 1

This was ideal, Abi thought as she struggled to find parking on the university ground. Being late was something she hated, but being late on her first day of her final year, that just made her want to crack.

"Shit!" She stomped the break, avoiding crashing into a silver Mercedes cutting right in front of her red Volkswagen. She couldn't see the driver, but secretly wished he or she got a cramp where the sun didn't shine. Her blue eyes sparked with irritation, and drove past occupied prime spot parking. "Looks like I'm destined for first year parking Apple." She patted the car's dash, and stopped in the first available spot. Grabbing her cellphone, keys and book bag, she dashed for her first class on the other side of campus. Her auburn hair hung loose, and the strapless dress she was wearing was swooshing with her quick steps. Suddenly "just dance" sounded from her bag.

"Hi Louise! I'm on my way, parking was a bitch!" Abi's breath was short.

"Hurry doll! Class is about to start. I'm on the left side, in the middle. Saving you a spot" Louise's chirpy voice ended with a click, and Abi threw the phone back into her candy striped bag.

Almost there, she thought as she entered the building. Her class was in room G01. The door was already closed, so she softly opened it a crack, listening. An old voice was speaking inside.

"Darn perfect." She said the words so softly; it was only her lips moving. Probably the lecturer introducing himself. All she could do was walk in, and give a very bad first impression...or she could skip the class. It was only an intro class anyway. Louise would get all the info. Problem was, Abi didn't like skipping class either. She was a hard worker, with good grades. She didn't drink too much, and rarely smoked pot. She was considered as a “pliggie”, an Afrikaans word used to informally describe an hard working student.

Well, the only way to decide was to use statistics, she thought. Flipping a coin. Dropping to the ground she opened her bag, getting out a coin.

"Heads, I go in. Tails, I skip class." Ankles crossed she flipped...and waited for the coin to return. Instead two long legs were standing in front of her. Startled she looked up, just to see a big fist close over her coin.

"Hey! What'ca doin! That's mine." She jumped up, trying to look mean an intimidating. But her tiny frame didn't have the desired effect.

"Is it just me, or are you flipping a coin? To do what?" His voice was deep, and his dark eyes swept across her baby blue dress. Irritated she grabbed for the coin.

"None of your business. Now give me back my property."

The stranger's face showed his surprise as he listened to her. This girl wasn't afraid, he thought. He grinned, and asked, not giving her back her coin:

"What class is this Tinkerbell?" Her face turned red, and he could see her squaring her shoulders.

"Economics 410 Captain Hook." Sarcasm dripped from her pretty pink lips. Abi was livid.

"Ah, where I want to be." He gave a sly smile, and flipped her coin. Heads.

"Looks like your coming in with me Tinkerbell." His voice was thick with laughter.

"I'm not your Tinkerbell. Screw you." She grabbed her bag, and didn't even bother to be discreet when she entered the class room. She was so crazy mad she didn't even notice the lecturer in front's shocked expression. Louise was waving, staring at Abi with wide green eyes. Finally she sat, plucking out her note book and pencil bag.

"Girlfriend, you seriously need to tell me what is going on?" Louise sounded amazed.

"Later. Some idiot called me Tinkerbell." Abi sounded offended, and for the first time, looked at the lecturer in front...except, it wasn't the old one, but Captain Hook standing with the chalk in his hand.

"Thank you for the introduction professor May." His voice sounded like velvet, filling the class room. Abi slowly put down her pen. He was tall, and seemed muscular under his formal clothes. His hair was black, eyes like chocolate, and his sensual mouth was curved into a small smile.

"My name is Dr. Andrew Cash. You can call me Andrew, doctor, whatever. You can even call me Captain Hook." Abi gasped and turned red under his taunting eyes. Louise looked curious at her friend's reaction, and then realisation dawned upon her. Only her best friend would be witty enough to reply with "Captain Hook" to the so called idiot's name for her.

Inside Abi it was fuming. How bad can this day get? Just my luck, she thought. How will I live through this class? I called my lecturer Captain Hook. Abi shook when Louise poked her in the ribs.

"Answer him Abs"

"Huh?" What now!?

"Aren't you articulate." His eyebrow was lifted. Shaking his head, he repeated the question.

"Can you please explain to me the relationship between the supply and demand curves? Or would you rather like to, ah, I don't know, flip a coin?" Ass. Abi sat straight, and stick out her chin.

"If demand increases, then supply decreases, and vice versa." Her blue eyes shot glass towards him.

"Very good miss. You can answer a first year question."

The class gave giggle. Double ass,she thought.

At least he left her alone for the rest of the period, and Abi sat silent, ignoring the person in front. Her eyes scanned through the class, and noticed every girl staring at him, dreams dancing in their eyes. Pathetic, she growled in her head. So what if he was good looking. There were many good looking lecturers on campus. She wasn't about to drool, that's for sure.

At last the end of class came, and Abi could not pack her things quick enough. Louise was waiting for her outside, probably dying of curiosity. When Abi was finished, she looked up and found his dark stare on her. Then he came towards her seat.

"So, Tinkerbell, you sorry yet for screwing me?" Abi gasped at the way he twisted her words.

"That's not what I said. And please stop calling me that. I'm not sorry, you deserved it." He gave an amused laugh, and turned away from her. Shaking his head he left the room, very much amazed by this tiny girl with a heart of a lion.
