Chapter 19
When Andrew dropped Abi off at her house, it was almost six o clock. The sun was up, and as she walked into her gate, a big head lifted from his sleeping place on the stoep.
“Hello boy!” Abi put on her most excited voice, really happy to see her companion. Tiny just kept lying down, but his tail was wagging with full force. She sat down next to him, rubbing his head.
“Oh, is he a tired dog? Don’t worry, you can sleep.” She bent down and gave him a kiss n the head, and got up. Inside she kicked off her shoes, dropped her handbag on the counter and fell down on the couch. She was so sleepy. She glanced at the watch. Quarter past six. She quickly did her math, and concluded that she could sleep to half past eight, finish up, visit her mom at nine, and then go to church at ten. Perfect. She usually ate lunch with her mom after church. Andrew said he would leave her alone for the day, since she still needed to study a bit, and needed some sleep. So she was only going to see him on Monday. She sighed. This would be a good day to reflect. She wasn’t sure what she was going to tell her mother, but she decided to wait until she got there. She set her cell phone’s alarm. Tiny came in, taking his time getting to her. He was clearly still sleeping, and as he dropped down on his side next to the couch, she closed her eyes. With one hand she reached for Tiny, and together they drifted into sleep.

Deb really believed that Karma was on her side. After her meeting with Matt, she felt much better. She didn’t have the dirt she needed, but she knew having Matt on her side was one step closer to Andrew. She was a bit disappointed when he left later that Saturday, and it just made her angrier. Her drinks with Matt went well, and she met a few new friends. One random student did catch her eye, and after a stormy night, she was a happy woman again. She’s never been a big sleeper, so when she left her ‘friend’s’ apartment at about one the morning, she came back to sleep. As always she was up again at five, getting ready for her morning run. It was after six when she returned, just in time to see Andrew park his lovely car. She immediately frowned. Did he stay with the little slut all night? What. The. Fuck. She was furious with jealousy, but as she ran towards him, she had a wide smile on her face.
“Andrew! Don’t tell me you did the walk of shame?”
Andrew looked confused for a moment, but then realised what she meant and smiled.
“You would want to know, wouldn’t you?” He walked towards his boot, but then it seemed like he changed his mind, like he didn’t want her to see what was inside. Again, she felt like she wanted to go crazy. Instead she laughed, batting her eyes at him.
“Sue me for giving a damn. Anyway, where were you?”
She ignored his irritated expression, stubbornly walking with him to his apartment.
“I went to our house next to the Orange River.”
“Oh? Alone?”
“Yes. I wanted to do some work.”
She knew he was lying. She waited for him to open his door, and walked in with him. She wasn’t going to make this easy for him.
“I don’t understand. Why would you then come back now? Why not stay there and leave later this morning?”
Andrew clearly lost his patience.
“Deb, seriously, I don’t have to tell you everything.”
She bit her lip. Clearly he did not want to tell her what was going on. Fine. She’d change her tactic. Sitting on his living room couch, she ignored his biting words.
