Chapter 22

Abi could see the silver Mercedes casually driving behind her.  She didn’t really think this through, did she?  Irritated with herself she groaned, glancing in her rear view mirror one more time.  There he was, casually sitting in his car, an arrogant smile on his face.  She thought back at what happened in her driveway, and cringed.  She gave him a middle finger!  How did that happen?  She shook her head, dumbfounded.  How could she, of all people, be so, well, melodramatic?  She cringed again, blushing.  She didn’t think at all, she was just so mad at him.  She turned into the university ground, swiping her student card.

Irritated she saw him entering and still following her.  She really didn’t want to face him now, she felt so embarrassed.  Maybe she could blame pms?

She deliberately chose a parking space surrounded by other cars, no other space in sight.  Quickly she jumped out, grabbing her stuff, relieved not to see him around.  She quickly turned a corner, and...slammed right into Andrew Cash.

“Ouch!  Did you really have to stand here?”  She was struggling to find her composure, her arm sore from connecting with his hipbone.  Then she frowned.

“How did you get here before me?  There was no parking!”

Casually he pointed to some covered parking.

“The benefits of being a lecturer sweetheart.”

She wanted slap herself against the head.  Great, she really didn’t recognise herself anymore.  Tomorrow they’d throw her into the crazy house, cause of insanity?  Love.  She sighed.

“Okay, you don’t have to say it.”

Andrew had a fake expression on his face.

“What are you talking about?”

“Ugh, don’t play dumb.”  She started walking to the lecture hall.  They had 20 minutes before the test started.  He walked next to her, his hands in his pockets.

Abi glanced at him, frowning.

“I will confess, maybe I did over react a bit...”  He opened his mouth to say something, but she silenced him.

“Shush.  Wipe that satisfied look of your face.  It’s because of you.  You make me act like a pms’d teenager.  How can you not see how inappropriate it was for Deb to clean your house?”

Andrew could see that she was really upset.  He suddenly felt ashamed.  Maybe she was right.  They were approaching the class, other students standing around, a few of their eyes locked on them.  He could see the girls whispering, shooting glares at Abi. He turned towards her, stopping her.

“Abi, I’m sorry.  I promise it won’t happen again.  You were right.  Now listen, just go to Louise and tell her that I just told you to that you have to mark a load of tests.  You have to be very unhappy.”  She nodded, frowning.

“Good, you already look unhappy.  Good luck with the test.”  She nodded, nice and in her place.

“No problem Doctor.”  She walks towards Louise, and Andrew went into the lecture hall.

Louise welcomed her with a smile.

“Hello Abs!  You ready for the test?”

Abi nodded, intensely aware of eyes burning on her back.  She dropped her bag on the floor with force. Time to act.

“Yip.  It would have been a wonderful day if he didn’t just tell me that I had to remark all 350 tests again.  And I have to do it by myself.  I mean, why can’t he help?  That’s so unfair.”
