Chapter 15

Jess stays in his apartment shocked. He is not sure what to do.

He can't deny that he has wanted to kiss Rory since he walked into the office of Stars Hollow Gazette. He just didn't think it was mutual.

"Maybe it's just the pregnancy hormones. Let it go, Jess. Maybe it's just her saying thank you for the books." Jess thought to himself.

He takes the children's books downstairs into the diner. The diner is already almost full. Many of the town residents coming for their Thanksgiving lunch.

"Hey, Jess. Help with refilling everyone's coffee." Luke is busy with carving the turkeys.

Jess looks around for Rory. Rory is sitting across from Lorelai trying to avoid eye contact with Jess.

Jess grabs the coffeepot and pours a refill for Lorelai. "Hey, Rory. Here. I think you forgot these," as he drops the books in front of Rory.

"Thanks, Jess." Rory is trying really hard to avoid eye contact.

When Jess walks away to refill other cups of coffee, Rory's eyes follow him. She is not sure what to make about the kiss. But she also cannot deny it stirred up some old feelings and attractions.

"Earth to Rory, come in Rory." Lorelai cups her mouth with her hands to make it sound like it's muffled from a radio.

"Mom'" Rory laughs.

"So, either something went on upstairs with you and Jess or you're just noticing he has a cute butt." Lorelai teases.

"Eww mom," laughs Rory.

"So what happened?"

Before Rory could answer Lorelai's question, Luke and jess are now passing around everyone's plates. On the plates were turkey, stuffing, candied yams, cranberry sauce and dinner rolls. Also on the counter for dessert are pumpkin pies, sweet potato pies and apple pies. Luke, Cesar and Jess just outdid themselves this year.

"Honey, great spread this year." Lorelai says when Luke finally sits to join Rory and Lorelai.

"Thank you. Shouldn't we be saying grace or something?"

"Yeah. I think you said before about being grateful that we're not Indians who were given disease infected blankets and died of scarlet fever?"

Rory jumps in surprise to hear Jess's voice so close to her ear. She shouldn't have been surprised that he joined them at the table.

Jess, Luke and Lorelai laugh at the memory. Rory just sits silently eating her food.

Rory sits back and watches Lorelai and Luke laughing and teasing each other during lunch, wishing she also had that. Rory catches Jess looking at her too from the corner of his eye. She smiles at him. He smiles back.

Rory's cell phone rings. She looks at the caller ID and excuses herself from the table.

"Hey Logan," she says when she steps out of the diner.

"Happy thanksgiving, Ace. I hope I haven't disturbed you."

"No not at all. I'm at Luke's diner celebrating right now. How are you? Last I heard you told Odette and she wasn't thrilled with the news of the baby."

"No she's not thrilled. But she understands why I still want to be a part of Bean's life. We're working on it. But that's not why I want to call you."

"Ok."  Rory caught the quick change of subject.

"Well, i will be flying to New York in two weeks for a meeting. I want to meet up with you. Maybe, we can see the OB together. I would really love to see our baby."

"My next appointment is December 13 at 2:30 PM in Hartford. I can send you the address."

"Thank you. Ace, I love you."

"Logan." Rory could feels tears down her cheeks.

"I know. I'll let you get back to your family." Logan hangs up.

Rory can tell that Logan was trying to mask the hurt when Rory didn't reciprocate the love. But Rory has made up her mind. She can't be with Logan. She can't be the reason Logan and Odette break up.

Rory wipes the tears from her eyes, touches her belly and whispers, "Bean, that was your daddy. He will meet you soon. I can't wait." Rory opens the door to the diner and takes back her seat.

As she sits, she can feel Jess's eyes on her from behind the counter. Rory looks at him, and with sadness, realizes she might be falling for two guys.
