Rory and Lorelai are headed out to Hartford for Rory's first prenatal visit.

It is a silent drive with both Rory and Lorelai occupied in their own thoughts. Whatever the doctor says today, reality will change for both women.

Lorelai's mind is a maze full of twists and turns. "I'm gonna see my grandchild. Wait will I even get to see it? Is it ok to call it an it? "It" was a scary movie. Telling Luke that Rory is pregnant is gonna be scary. Oh god. Luke. How do I tell Luke. Should I tell Luke? Or leave that to Rory? Oh gosh, Rory. She's going to be a mom. She doesn't have a steady job. Maybe she can finish her book. Oh, god the book. Did I really want her to write the book. I need her to not write the book. But what about the baby? Oh the baby." On and on and on her mind went.

Rory's mind was just as occupied as her mother's. Rory's biggest worry is about the health of her bean. She just wants to be sure everything is right. She read her baby books. She knows her baby is about the size of a kidney bean. Rory just cannot wait to see the ultrasound. Then hopefully it will all be real.

"Lorelai Gilmore?" The nurse comes out calling Rory's name.

"Please call me Rory," Rory insists.

"Ok. Let me take your vitals and weight."

As the nurse proceeds to do that, Rory's anxiety increases. She grabs hold of Lorelai's hand. Rory is very grateful her mom was there.

"So, Rory? What brings you here today?"

"Well, last week, I peed on a stick and found out I'm pregnant. I just want to confirm that it's true. And hopefully get an ultrasound. Make sure everything is ok."

"Is this your first pregnancy?"

"Yes."

"Ok. Let me get you to your room. And I will draw blood from you. Then the doctor will see you."

"Thank you."

The nurse leads Rory and Lorelai into their room. Proceeds to draw blood. When they are alone, Lorelai sits on the chair next to Rory holds her hand as they wait.

There were no words exchanged. Rory just needed her mom. Having Lorelai's hand in hers is more comforting than any word could.

A knock comes to the door. A short African American woman comes in with her hand extended. "Hello, Rory. My name is Dr. Fagan. Nice to meet you. And you are?"

Lorelai shakes the doctor's hand. "I'm the grandmother to be. Before you touch my daughter and examine her, can you please tell me your background?"

"Well, I did my undergrad studies at Yale. Went to Harvard medical school. Did my residency at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland. I am a double board certified OB-GYN and prenatal surgeon."

"Thank you. I just wanted you to know, Dr. that this is my only daughter and my first grandchild. I can't just let anyone touch her." Lorelai explains to the doctor.

"I understand. Now, Rory. Your blood test confirms that you're pregnant. So congratulations. I just feel I should ask if you know you have options."

"Yes, Dr. Fagan. I am aware of my options. I choose to keep the baby."

"That's good to hear. Now you have no medical history of any birth defects and your age isn't something to worry about. Your blood pressure is a little high. But it's not too alarming. Which is all good. Now what I can do today is a vaginal ultrasound just to check if the baby's development is ok. And we can give you your first picture of your baby."

"Yes, Doctor. Thank you."

"Well, here's a gown. Take off everything, waist down. I will leave and come back in ten minutes."

When the doctor leaves, Rory squeezes her mom's hand. "Mom, I'm scared."

"I know, kid. It sounds like you have a great doctor though. And I'm here with you, always."

Fifteen minutes later, Rory looks at the ultrasound machine. It looks blurry and black and white.

"Can you see the circle, Rory?" Rory nods. "That's your baby."

Rory looks at her mom's eyes. She's surprised to see Lorelai has tears streaming down her face. Just as surprised to feel tears coming down her own cheeks.

"Ok, I'm just going to measure the baby. You look to be about 9 weeks pregnant. Which leaves your due date to be around June 23." Everything looks healthy. Would you like me to print a picture?"

"Yes, please." Through the tears, Rory has the biggest smile on her face. Her Bean is real.

The doctor prints out four pictures and hands them out to Rory. "Congratulations, mama. We can set up for your next appointment which is usually done around 20 weeks. I have already written up a prescription for your prenatal vitamins. Here are some brochures to help with your journey for your pregnancy. Do you have any questions?"

"No, doctor. Thank you very much for everything."

"You're welcome. Ok. So I will leave you two alone so you can change back to your clothes. Just go to the front desk and they will have all your paperwork ready for you. Congratulations again."

When the doctor leaves, Rory and Lorelai hug in pure joy. "Oh, mom. Can you believe it? I have a baby!!!"

"Yes honey. I'm going to be a grandmother. I'm so excited. You better put on your pants so we can leave. Does this mean we get to tell Luke?"

"Yes, mom. We can tell Luke. I'm so happy."

On the drive home, Rory checks her watch. It's 3:30 PM. It's 7:30 in London. Rory decides to call Logan and tell him the baby is healthy.

When she calls him, Logan didn't pick up. So Rory left a message. "Hey Logan. It's Rory. Oh my gosh, I just went to my first OB appointment. I saw our baby. It just a circle on the screen right now. No discernible features. But Logan, Bean is real. I'm so happy. Call me back when you can. I will send you a pic of the ultrasound. Wish you could have been here to see the baby. Bye Logan."

The drive back home is more lively and jovial that the drive to Hartford was.
