Chapter 11

Rory and Lorelai are back at Stars Hollow. Lorelai puts the sonogram pictures on the fridge. Seeing that picture makes it real. In seven months a new generation of Gilmore will be born.

Lorelai plans to tell Luke tonight when he gets home from the diner. Luke has said before he doesn't want kids. But today, Luke will find out he will be a grandfather. Lorelai wonders what his reaction will be.

Lorelai knocks on Rory's room. "Hey, Rory, I need to check back at the inn. There are leftovers in the fridge if you get hungry. I'll be back. Ok?"

"Yeah, thanks mom. I'll see you later."

Rory is in her room on the laptop, typing out an email to Logan when her cell phone rings. Caller ID says it's Logan.

"Hey Logan."

"Hey, Ace. I'm sorry I didn't pick up the phone earlier. I had a meeting."

"It's ok. Did you get my message?"

"Yes, I did. Wow so it's real. I am so excited to be a father. Were there any complications? What did the doctor say?"

Rory proceeds to give Logan the rundown of the appointment. Told Logan about her next ultrasound appointment. Logan promises to be there.

"Logan, it was so beautiful. I mean I knew I was pregnant. But to see that little blip in the screen. There's really something there. Something you and I made."

"Ace, I wish I was there." Logan says wistfully.

"You will be there for the next one. Have you told Odette?" Rory asks.

"No, I haven't told her yet. I just don't know how to bring the subject up. I haven't told anyone."

"Well, I haven't told anyone but my mom yet. I wanted to wait until I told you. I thought I owed you that much." Rory confesses.

"Thank you for telling me, Ace. I promise to be there as much as you let me. Have you looked at baby catalogs?"

"What for?"

"To buy baby furniture or any other essentials." Logan explains.

"Not yet. I think it's too early for that." To be honest, Rory totally forgot about the baby furniture she would need.

"All right. If it's ok with you, I would love to help you with that stuff. Just tell me what you would like and I can get it for you."

"Ok. We'll work it out, Logan. I can email you a pic of the sonogram if you like."

"Yes, please. I want to see the Bean." The nickname still makes Logan laugh.

"Hey don't tease the name." Rory laughs along with Logan.

Rory and Logan hangs up with the promise of talking to each other soon. Rory opens up a new email. In the subject line, she types "the Bean" and attaches a picture of the sonogram. "We made this Logan. Isn't that crazy?"

The phone in the diner rings. Luke picks up the phone expecting another phone order. "Luke's diner."

"Hey, my hunk of burnin' love husband of mine."

The voice of his wife will always bring a smile to Luke's face. "You know I'm busy right? Dinner rush and all."

"Yeah, I know. But is jess around?"

"He's upstairs. Why? Do you want to speak to him?"

"No, my love. I just want to make sure he is occupied. I need to tell you something in private."

"Ok. Well, jess is going to meet Rory here. I can see you back at the house. I can leave early and have Jess close up."

"Yes. That would be perfect. I'll see you at home."

Luke hangs up wondering if Lorelai will finally tell him what's wrong.

Luke opens the door to his home. It still feels good saying that. When he walks into the living room, he sees Lorelai waiting for him on the couch with a piece of paper.

"Hey, Luke. Want to sit down?"

The tone in Lorelai's voice has Luke worried. He sits on the couch next to Lorelai wondering what's going on.

"Luke, I have been keeping something from you for the past two weeks. Please understand it was only because Rory asked me to. It was Rory's secret. It wasn't my place to tell until she felt it was time to tell."

"Ok, Lorelai. You have me worried. What's wrong? I had a feeling something was up with Rory since the wedding. I knew you would tell me when it's time. So what's wrong?"

"Rory's pregnant." Lorelai hands Luke the sonogram pictures.

Shock fell upon Luke's face as Luke takes a close look at what was handed to him. "How? When? Why? Who? What?"

"Well, you have April so I know you can figure out how. About 9 weeks ago. I don't know why. Logan. And yes. Rory's pregnant."

"Well, we will help raise the baby. She will not raise this baby alone. I can contact Tom. And maybe get an extension added to this house. She will not raise this baby alone. We can take care of her and the baby." Luke is having a hard time believing the young girl he watched grow into a beautiful woman is now going to be a mother.

"Honey I love you. Rory says she has plans. I am just gonna follow her lead. And whatever she needs help with, we will be there for her."

"So grandpa, huh?" Luke leans back on the couch, throws his arm around his wife. "I kind of like it, Mrs. Danes."

"I kind of like it, too, Mr. Danes." Lorelai leans over to give her husband a kiss.
