"Hey, Ace."
It had been two and a half weeks since Jess left Stars Hollow for Philadelphia. Jess still contacts Rory almost everyday. But it doesn't feel the same as when he's here with her.
Today Logan is in Stars Hollow to take her out to dinner and to talk.
Rory hasn't seen Logan since visiting him in London but he looks good.
"Hey, Logan. Wanna come in? It's cold."
"Thank you." Logan enters the house and follows Rory into the living room. "Wow this place hasn't changed much."
Rory laughs saying "That's only because you haven't seen the kitchen yet."
As they enter the kitchen, Logan's jaw drops. "Oh yeah, this place has changed."
"Well when your husband is a diner owner, kitchen upgrades are a necessity."
Rory heads to her bedroom so she can finish getting ready to go out.
"You look beautiful, Ace. I can't believe you're not showing yet." Logan sits on the bed, as he watches Rory bustle around her room.
"I'm still early in the pregnancy. But my hips are getting a little wider. I have had to go shopping for bigger pants."
"13 weeks. I can't wait to see our baby in two days. Is it too early to know if it's a boy or girl?" Logan asks.
"I think that's supposed to happen in 20 weeks. Logan, can you help me with my necklace?"
Logan gets behind Rory to help put on the clasp for her necklace. As he stands behind her, he can't help but linger a little longer with his hand on her collarbone.
"Logan," Rory whispers.
"I know." Logan pulls his hand away.
Rory turns to face Logan. "Logan, I love you. I will always, always love you. You know that. We are forever connected because we made a baby. But I can't be with you. You're engaged to be married. You and Odette are working things out. She loves you. You love her. I can't be the reason for your breakup."
"But Ace, if I wasn't with Odette, would you still not want to be with me?" Logan asks with curiosity.
"You know I can't answer that, Logan. I don't know the answer to that. You and i have a history that is beautifully entwined forever. But I don't know if we have a future together. Look, I am happy right now. That's all I want. Are you happy?"
"Ace," Logan leans in and kisses Rory passionately.
"Stop," Rory puts her hand on Logan's chest. "This can't happen, Logan. Please, don't make it harder for me."
"Ace, I will always love you also. And all I want is for you to be happy. So if you're happy right now, I will do everything in my power to keep it that way."
"Thank you, Logan. But are you happy, too?" Rory looks into Logan's eyes in search of truth.
"I am, Ace I am."
*****
Logan made reservations to one of the best Italian restaurants in Connecticut, Vivo Seasonal Trattoria.
When the hostess led them to their table, Logan helped Rory out of her coat and pulled out the chair for her.
"Wow, this is a beautiful restaurant. I love the architecture and gorgeous windows. Thank you for taking me here."
"I'm glad you love this place. I have never been here before but I hear they have some of the best foods in the east coast."
A waiter comes by and asks if they would like a wine list.
"No, thank you. I just would love your best red Italian wine and Ace, what would you like?"
"Unsweetened iced tea with lemon please. Thank you."
As they wait for their food orders, Rory and Logan discuss their future plans.
"So Ace, how's the search for your own place going?"
"I'm actually done with that. Luke had an open space in the building he owns. It is above the Ice Cream and soda shop. It's a one bedroom apartment. Big enough for the baby and I. And the rent is 750 dollars a month, which is great. It's still in Stars Hollow and next door to my favorite breakfast place. It's just my little slice of nirvana." Rory's eyes gleam with excitement as she describes her new home.
"When do you move in?"
"Luke says I can move in beginning of the year. I'm just so excited to have a place for Bean and I. I mean it's small, but I think it's the right size for us."
"That's good. I would love to pay for the first months rent and down payment. Call it my first baby gift." Logan offers.
"Thank you so much Logan. That means I can buy some new furniture for the apartment. I will probably get most of the stuff at the Kim's antique store."
"Can you just hold off on baby furniture until I can go with you? I would love to pay for it. And help with the decorations."
"Ok. I'll wait for you. Now Logan, what's your status with Odette? Is she ok with you being here to help with the baby and buying furniture and stuff?" Rory asks.
"We talked about it. She is mad that I had an affair. But she understands how the baby is mine, and that I have responsibilities now. Actually, she wanted me to ask you if while I am here for the baby's birth, if she can come also."
"Of course. She's going to be a part of your life which means she will be a part of the baby's life."
Their food finally arrives. As they are eating, Rory brings up a subject she's been most skeptical to talk about.
"Logan, I need to talk to you about the baby's name."
"Ok," Logan sets down his fork and looks at Rory.
"Logan, I don't know how comfortable you will be with this, but I would like to have the baby's last name be Gilmore."
"Why?" Logan asked a little bit hurt by this revelation. He had been so excited to have a baby Huntzberger.
"Logan, we are not married. I don't want the baby to have the same pressure that you did growing up. I just envision this baby to be a Gilmore."
"Ok, Ace, that's fine. Can I make a suggestion though for the first names?"
"Of course."
"Lorelai Rose Gilmore for a girl. And Richard Logan Gilmore for a boy." Logan suggested.
Rory's eyes filled with tears with the suggestion for the boy's name. Rory nodded her head, moved beyond words
