Sophia's POV- March 2016
I looked at the engagement ring that was currently on my left ring finger.
"It's beautiful" I admitted.
I moved my finger and watched as the light reflected off the diamond.
"It's not too over the top?"
I shook my head and looked up at Enzo who was sitting across from me. The ring was perfect for my mom, not too over the top but not too simple.
"No, mom is going to love it" I replied.
"Will she love it?"
I smiled.
"Enzo, you can give her a ring pop and she'd love it" I stated.
He smiled and scratched his jaw.
"She's going to say yes, don't you worry about that" I said.
I slipped the ring off my finger and handed it to him.
"And it will fit her"
Mom and I were the same ring size, something George apparently figured out.
"When do you plan on asking her?" I asked.
"I have an idea, and I was hoping I could run it by you"
I signaled for him to continue as I took a sip of my boba tea he'd brought me. Enzo had called me early this morning to know if I was going to be busy. He showed up a bit ago with all my favorite snacks which I was thankful for because I had a midterm on Wednesday that I needed to study for.
"I want to take her to the Mayan Ruins in Tulum"
I smiled.
"She's going to love that" I answered.
"You think so?"
"Yeah, you know how much of a history geek she is" I replied.
Half of me hurt because I knew I wouldn't be there to witness my mom get engaged. The other half was incredibly happy for my mom because she was finally getting her happily ever after.
"That she is"
"When do you plan on asking?" I asked.
"Would you mind if I stole her away Easter?"
I looked at Enzo and smiled at him.
"I don't mind" I replied.
I did mind, I minded a lot but I was doing this for the happiness of my mom.
"I know Easter Sunday means a lot to you"
Prior to my mom's religious beliefs (cough none), I was raised in a traditional Roman Catholic home. There were two major holidays that were important to me, Easter and Christmas. I wasn't raised in a family oriented home, and these were the two holidays where I could get my parents together. When my dad passed away, mom kept the tradition. We would all get together and eat yummy food.
"It's ok, I'll make Mariana and George celebrate it with me" I said.
He looked at me and smiled.
"You don't mind?"
"I'll be fine" I assured him.
"We'd be back in time for your meet"
NCAA Regionals were April 2nd in Salt Lake City, Utah. Regardless of the outcome of Pac-12 we'd still be attending this meet.
"Trust me when I say that you will hear your mother and I cheering for you"
Mom and Enzo had made it to everyone single one of my home meets even the ones I didn't compete in.
"If your mom says yes"
"She will say yes" I said interrupting him.
"Just know that she's not the only one who will be a part of my family. I know you hate how protective I am towards you, but you have to understand that I am in no way trying to replace your father"
I nodded.
"I know" I replied.
"I have to admit I did not the idea of you dating a professional hockey player, but I've seen the way he looks at you. Just know that I will always give him a hard time because it's fun to see him squirm"
I laughed.
"Can I get a hug?"
"Of course" I said.
He leaned forward and pulled me into a hug.
"By any chance, is he hiding under your bed?"
"No, he's in San Jose" I answered.
Adrian was out of town until Thursday. They played the San Jose Barracuda today and Wednesday.
"You are one of the strongest young ladies I have met"
He squeezed me and kissed my forehead before he pulled away.
"You're going to make me cry" I warned.
"It's a little too late for me"
I reached over for a tissue and handed it to him.
"I expect a FaceTime call after it happens" I stated.
He nodded.
"Of course, I'm sure you will be the first your mom will call"
"My mom's getting married" I said.
"I haven't asked her yet Sophia"
"My mom's getting married " I repeated ignoring what he had just said.
