She was a monstrosity.

Her electric-blue sapphire eyes pierced into his gaze, strong and unmoving.

"No." Winter said firmly.

She made a high-pitched whining sound, rattling his ears and loud enough to shatter glass. Winter set his jaw grimly, his patience snapping.

"But he's the most gorgeous dragon ever! He has like, the bestest green eyes ever, his scales are like lemonade grass-" She sighed happily for a moment, her wings drooping, and then pounced on Winter. "Please please please please-"

"Tropical will not be going out with you and that is final."

"NOOOOOOOOOO!"

Frankly, she was way too young to engage in romance. Moon, however, was not helping, just sitting at the side with a small smile on her face.

"He sits all day mumbling about books! How do you expect him to like you?"

"Don't worry, honey. He does." Moon called, and the midnight-blue dragonet beamed, her eyes sparkling.

"See! She's right!"

Winter growled at Moon, who returned a playful grin, not caring about anything in the world except sitting there and letting this whole scene play out.

"Your mom doesn't know anything," Winter shot back. "And he's a bad influence."

"Mom is a mind reader and seer. Also, you thought mom was a bad influence and you guys got along well." She pointed out.

"Just let her go, Winter." Moon said, brushing her wing with his, twining their tails together.

"Fine." Winter grudgingly glared at the both of them. "But if he dares to make a move on you, I will rip off his face."

This insult flew right past her head and she giggled excitedly, flying across the room and into the halls. "Bye thanks mom dad I won't get into trouble love you!" Accompanied by a brutal slam of a door.

"You know, Kinkajou approves of them." Moon said, poking Winter in the snout. "You should give her a try at dating; it'll be fun."

Winter grumbled, reluctant and upset.

"Speaking of which, how is Turtle doing? I heard he has a business in writing books. You could read one and see how it goes." Moon suggested, frowning at Winter's face. "Don't be so grumpy, she'll have fun! Plus, I'm a mind reader."

Winter felt his heart calm, and settled down. She was right. Maybe there was nothing to worry about.

"And Umber's wedding is coming up. I just got an invitation card. We should go." Moon held up a pink slip of paper, smiling hopefully at Winter.

"Umber's getting married?" Winter quipped, drifting back to when they first started school. The MudWing was a friend, but not a close one. "With who?"

"You wouldn't believe," Moon's eyes glinted. "Qibli."

"Wait, what?"

"He's getting married with Qibli! How great is that? Soon they'll have little autumn-coloured dragonets and we'll have to throw a party."

"Moon, they can't have dragonets."

"Still. It was cute."

They lapsed into silence again, their tails still twined together.

"Maybe we can go again. Back to Jade University. We can meet the Prophecy dragonets again."

Constellation burst out of the room and exited the house, flapping furiously in the wind. Winter was always worried whether she'd lose her wings from flying too hard.

"Sounds like a great idea."

They could thank her for building the school- for allowing Winter and Moon to meet, for letting all of this happen.

Winter could not be happier.

They drove by the streets, past the buildings and towering skyscapes, and to the graveyard.
