The next day at school, her friends were already waiting for her at the front gate. As Jiyoon muttered a quick, "See you later" to Luhan, Eunmi was already clucking her tongue like a displeased mother while Soyeon just stood there, tapping away on her phone. Eunmi shoved Soyeon's shoulder, indicating that she should act displeased as well but only received a nonchalant shrug. She crinkled her nose, unhappy with her friend's lack of cooperation and decided to just interrogate Jiyoon herself. She stood there; analysing Jiyoon's face and saw the evident paleness after every first day of Jiyoon's period. So, she stalked towards Jiyoon and came up behind her, whispering, "So, PMS pain again?... Or is it something else?"
Jiyoon felt her friend's breath brush against her ear and flinched away. "Yah! Don't do that," she exclaimed, pushing Eunmi's face away.
"Do what?" Eunmi fluttered her eyelashes innocently.
"Blow air into my ear is what. Sheesh, why can't you be normal?"
"If I was normal, I wouldn't have friends like you. Or be as popular as I am," Eunmi grinned cheekily.
"Psh, with your beauty, you'd be popular anywhere. Compared to you, I'm a wallflower," Jiyoon rolled her eyes.
The two approached Soyeon, who looked up briefly from her phone before looking back and trailing behind them to class. Eunmi looked at Jiyoon and once again adopted her interrogation side. "What happened yesterday?"
"...I was sick and in pain. Duh," Jiyoon sighed.
"Hmm, okay I believe you. What else happened though?" Eunmi nudged her friend's waist, resulting in an "Ow" and a glare from Jiyoon. Eunmi shrugged and continued to pester her.
"There was nothing else. I was sick. Though..." Jiyoon tapped her chin. Should I tell her about how nice he was or not? Meh, I'll tell her, she thought, smiling to herself.
"What're you smiling so secretively about? Hmm...?"
"Well..." And Jiyoon told her about her day, even though most of the time she had been sleeping, about Luhan's moment of sweetness when he bought her flowers and ice-cream. She gushed about how she told him in her weak emotional state, everything that was weighing on her mind. Eunmi would nod, laugh and agree at all the right intervals, evening commenting now and then as together they analysed his behaviour.
"He must really love you then," Eunmi smiled. "Well, we should hurry since the bell is about to go. Soyeon!"
The trio headed towards their class, sitting down in the front row as always. The bell rang just as other students flooded into the classroom and the teacher came in with a stack of paper. The teacher cleared his throat and started to mark the roll. When that was completed, he wrote something on the whiteboard and then faced the class. "So, it's that time of the year again!"
Everyone just looked confused and stayed silent. The teacher beamed at everyone, "Well, it's the annual historical field trip to Gyeongju. This," he held up the a5 guidebook, "lists all the places we'll be going to. It'll be a good experience to learn about our country's history as well. Any questions?"
"Where exactly are the places we're going to?" Someone asked from behind Jiyoon.
"Just read the guidebook that I'll hand out now," the teacher came down each aisle and handed one to each student. Everyone was chattering away excitedly about the trip, planning what to bring and the sights they'll see. The bell rang for the next period and class started.
Jiyoon herself couldn't wait to tell Luhan about the upcoming trip. She couldn't wait to brag about it and tease him that he couldn't come with her. But she also felt a little sad that she wouldn't be able to spend the trip with him. Jiyoon decided that she would take plenty of photos and buy a few souvenirs for him instead.
