"Are you going now?" Calum asked, tipping his head back off the couch to see me.
"Y-yeah, I'll be back in half an hour or so." I told him, slipping on my black vans.
"Can I come with you?" He asked nervously.
"I'd rather go alone, thanks." I smiled, closing the door and leaving before further questioning.
I sensed something, they weren't the same as when I left a year or so ago. They'd changed, all four of them and by the sounds of it; Luke in particular.
I walked and walked for what seemed like hours in the chilling air towards the tree I had been told Luke was most likely at. I remember the tree, from when me and Luke were 5 years old or so. We'd carved our names into the base of it, then ran away in a fit of giggles at the thought we'd be told off since it was more of a public park at the time; now a mess of wrangled grasses and mud with a few rusty swings.
I finally reached the tree and as expected; there he was. He looked somewhat distressed and had changed, a fucking lot.
He had tattooes laced up his right forearm, his fringe pusher back into a tall yet subtle quiff, jeans ripped halfway down his calf and the same old muddy black vans; the same as mine. He also had a black ring on the left side of his lip and a stud in his eyebrow. Feature-wise, the hadn't changed much except for his more prominent facial structure, and he'd grown a good few inches. He was notoriously skinny, with his biceps prominent as they wrapped around his gangly legs.
He looked up as I'd finished assessing him, and pulled out an earplug. He mumbled something inaudible as his blue eyes bored into me.
He obviously recognised me, but still looked oblivious to the fact I was actually stood here. He stood up and ran over to me, tackling me into a huge hug since he now towered over me by inches, if not a foot on top of those inches.
"A-Abbey?" He asked, his voice had deepened quite a lot since last year.
"It's me." I laughed, a few tears streaming. I had missed him so fucking much. More than I realized when I was gone, but having him here brought everything back. His scent, his hair, his familiar hugs that screamed home.
Every single inch of him, I'd missed unbelievably.
"I've missed you so fucking much. Never, ever, leave me like that again, you bitch." He laughed. I'd missed that too. His laugh had always been one of my favourite sounds.
"I won't, I promise." I couldn't bear to in all honesty.
