PARK EUN HA was eight years old when she went up to her father and said:
"Dad, I want to be an idol!"
He just laughed and put down the newspaper he was reading to lean down and flick her nose. "And why would you want to be that, Eun Ha?"
"Because I love music!"
"Ah, but sweetheart, you won't earn money from performing unless you're a really good idol."
She didn't see the problem with that. "Then... I'll become a really good idol!"
Her father gave her a knowing smile and showed her the cover page of the morning paper. A bald, old man in a stiff-looking doctor's coat smiled in the picture, a stethoscope slung around his neck. "Hm, well, I think you should be a doctor, or maybe an engineer. Then you'll earn a lot of money, and – "
"But I don't want to be a doctor, or an engineer!" she whined. "I want to be an idol!"
For a moment, he looked like he would've said something, but instead just patted her head condescendingly and told her to go to bed. He was her father, after all. He'd find some way to turn her into a doctor or engineer, rest assured.
But after he'd kissed her goodnight and closed the door behind him, Park Eun Ha ducked under her covers, took out a flashlight, and began to write another little song.
