"Ah, there's our lovebird." My mom breathed as I walked back onto the porch after dropping off Bobby. I groaned and slumped into a chair.
"She seems great, Shaun. She'll be perfect for you." My dad said.
"She's hot." Jesse said, and my parents laughed. I shot him a look.
"Can you guys not talk about her like that? We're not like that." I said, closing my eyes and massaging my temples.
"But you want to be." Jesse said matter-of-factly.
"Even if I did, she doesn't, so it doesn't even matter. Besides, even if she had wanted that, she doesn't anymore, because in the car I said that I think we're going to be 'best friends.'" I winced at the memory. My mom looked at me pityingly.
"Why would you do that, you idiot?!" Jesse said. I didn't get a chance to even come up with a response, because at that moment, my sister walked in holding a soda can.
"Why is Shaun an idiot now?" She asked, looking around at the group as she sat down in a chair next to me. Jesse started to explain, but I just couldn't sit around and listen to them talk about my patheticness, and I walked off to my room and pulled out my guitar, just playing random chords and a few songs until I was tired. I changed into a pair of boxers and a tee shirt and went to bed. It took me forever to fall asleep, and when I did, it was a fitful slumber.
Bobby's POV
The morning after my evening with Shaun, I woke up when I felt my bed bouncing and heard laughter. I opened my eyes and squinted at the light and saw Dawn and Christelle laughing.
"She is so boy-crazy!" Christelle exclaimed, falling into another fit of giggles. I sat up and they both looked up at me. "Morning Sunshine!" Christelle said.
"What time is it? And what are you guys talking about so loudly?" I mumbled.
"It's 9:45. We're talking about Amy and her new partner. Today during breakfast, we got to meet our partners for this year. Amy got the new guy. His name is Eric, and for the first time in three years, Amy has a partner who isn't gay. She was flirting like crazy. It was hilarious!" Dawn said, and she and Christelle started laughing again. I threw back the covers and got up and stretched.
"Did you see who my partner was?" I asked as I pulled my hair into a ponytail. I love partnering, and I was hoping that Dawn would be able to tell me good things about whoever it was that I would be working with.
"His name is Greg Noble. He's really sweet. He was Amy's partner two years ago, and he was mine last year." Dawn said. "He's good and strong, and he'll be really helpful. I got Rick and Chrissy got Ethan. Hurry up and get dressed, and we can go and find them." I skipped over to my dresser and pulled out a change of clothes, which I took to the bathroom to get ready. After doing my hair and putting on a little makeup, (nothing like getting all fancy when you're about to meet your gay ballet partner) the three of us headed down to the dining room. I got my food and then we went and found Amy sitting at a table with 4 guys. Amy was sitting next to a cute boy with short blonde hair and a nice tan. She was facing him, talking and flirting like mad. It really was funny. Just to piss her off, I set down my tray and walked right over and stepped between their chairs.
"Hi, I'm Bobby. And you must be Eric..." I drawled, offering him my hand as I put my other hand on his shoulder.
"Yes, this is Eric, and he's going to be my partner this year." Amy said pointedly as he shook my hand. I smiled at him, turned and rolled my eyes at her, and walked back and sat down in my seat. Christelle and Dawn were sitting talking to the other three guys.
"Greg, this is Bobby. She's your partner this year." Dawn said, motioning towards me as she directed the statement at a guy with brown hair and brown eyes and a thin but strong-looking build. I waved at him and he stood up and gave me a sort-of hug across the table.
