Some of the crew including Jimmy, Boden, Casey, Stella, Gabby, Severide and Hermann, and I were cracking up in the breakroom when the alarm went off. We suited up, hopped in the trucks, and responded to an apartment complex fire. Cruz, Severide, Otis, and I called out for anyone in the apartments, evacuated everyone, and rescued anyone who needed to be rescued. While we were continuing to continue call out and rescue people, part of the roof collapsed on us. "Severide! Report!" Boden radioed. Severide radioed back, "We're alright, Boden...just trapped." Anxiety rippled through me. "We will be alright." Otis assured us. "What do we do?" I asked. "We do what we can to get out." Severide said. We kicked and fought our way through the barrier. I felt flames creeping up on us. "Guys....we're burning up here! We need to move!" I yelled. We moved faster and eventually got out of there and the building. "Are you four alright?!" Casey yelled. "We're fine!" I yelled back. I ran to Jimmy and we embraced each other. I looked into his eyes and told him, "God was and is watching over us. I just know it." He smiled and replied, "I know."
That night, Jimmy, Sylvia and I had a movie marathon until we fell asleep. In the middle of the night, I ran to the bathroom and threw up. I flushed the toilet, washed my hands and face, and looked in the cabinets for a home pregnancy test, which I found and took. I heard a knock on the bathroom door. "Are you okay, Mom?" Sylvia asked. "Yes. I'm fine. I'll be out in ten minutes." I replied. An hour later, the test came back positive. I rushed out of the bathroom. "Y'all, I have amazing news!" I said, ecstatically. "Tell us!" Jimmy replied. I looked at Sylvia and said, "You're going to have a brother or a sister!" Sylvia lit up and hugged me, "Congrats, Mama!" Jimmy hopped up and embraced us.
