Six months later, I started experiencing Braxton-Hicks contractions and very sharp back pain. I called my obstetrician and she immediately told me to be on bedrest until the baby comes, with the exception of using the bathroom. Jimmy took off work to be there for me and to take Sylvia to school. I was in so much pain. I could only eat Jello and toast and drink water. Jimmy called his dad over just in case I went into labor. Late one night, I finally went into labor right after Jimmy put Sylvia to bed after giving her her nighttime medications. Jimmy's dad stayed.
My water broke on the way to the hospital, now beginning active labor. I broke out in a sweat and told Jimmy to drive faster and he did. I screamed and groaned as the pain got worse. We arrived a minute later at the emergency room entrance of Med. Jimmy hopped out and yelled for a wheelchair. April and Rhodes rushed to help me out of the car, into the wheelchair, and into the delivery room. Jimmy rushed to park the car then back into the hospital and the delivery room. Jimmy then called Hermann, Boden, Casey, Severide, Stella, and Dawson...who waited in the waiting room when they arrived.
Without any time to spare, it was time for another, yet unplanned, unmedicated natural birth. Dawson, Casey, and Hermann...and Hermann's wife...decided to come in to the delivery room to support me. Five hours of pushing, groaning, and screaming later, the baby...a girl..was born. I named her Hope. Just as Hope was being cleaned, weighed, measured, and wrapped in a baby blanket, I felt more contractions. Dr. Charles, who delivered Hope prior, put his stethoscope on my stomach then announced, "There's a twin!" I looked at Jimmy in surprise, then pushed between contractions yet again. There was more pain. Between breaths, I said, "I think this one is bigger than Hope." I grunted and screamed as the other baby was being born. My heart monitor went up. "Breathe, sweetheart, breathe!" Jimmy encouraged me, though he was worried. I continued pushing and pushing until finally the baby was out! I laid back, gasping and crying in relief and joy. "It's a boy!" Dr. Charles announced. I squeezed Jimmy's and Mrs. Hermann's hands and joyfully laughed. I named him Chris, after Hermann, who I asked for he and Mrs. Hermann to be the kids'(Sylvia, Hope, and Chris) godparents. They accepted. We all were crying happy tears. Severide and Stella walked in right after everything else was taken care of. "They're beautiful!" Severide and Stella complimented. "Thank you." I replied. Baby Chris in Jimmy's arms and Hope in mine. I looked at the Hermann's, Gabby, and Matt and thanked them too. Jimmy's dad and Sylvia came to visit after the Hermann's, Severide, Stella, Gabby, and Matt left.
