One afternoon, Jimmy took off work for a little while for an eye doctor's appointment. Mrs. Hermann was watching the twins again while Sylvia was at school. Two hours later, Jimmy called my cell. He told me that he was getting a new eye! "That's amazing, honey!" I exclaimed. He told me that the procedure will be at least three hours and that it would be two days from now. "Okay. I'll take off work to drive you to the hospital, is that okay?" I asked. He said, "That's fine." The alarm went off and I told him that I had to go and that I loved him, then I put my phone in my pocket and suited up.

We responded to the base of a water tower. I looked up and saw a teenage girl about to jump off. I yelled to her, "Hang tight! Don't jump!" She stood as still as a statue. I found a ladder on the side of the tower. I called for Otis to accompany me. We climbed up and tried to coax her to come with us. "No! It's too late for me! I'm not good enough for anyone." She cried. "Sweetheart, that's not true. Believe me...please believe me." I said, slowly walking towards her and holding my hand out for her. "Give me your hand and we'll help you get down the ladder safely, alright?" Otis told her. "No!" She yelled. She pulled a knife from her pocket and aimed it towards me, "Walk towards me and I will stab you!" "You don't need to do that, but please don't jump!" I told her. I radioed Boden to prepare a giant inflatable pad, and they did. I motioned for Otis to stay back and go down the ladder in case anything happens. I slowly walked towards the girl and coaxed her while she threatened me. As I got an inch closer to her with my hand outstretched, she stabbed me in the left side of my stomach, I collapsed to my knees, and then she jumped, the knife falling off of the tower. I crawled to see if she landed on the pad and she did. She was lifted onto the gurney and was handcuffed to it after. I radioed for Hermann to bring the ladder and basket up. Cruz was in the basket and he got up and helped me to it. I put pressure on my wound using my hand. I had to sit on the floor of the basket. "Hang in there." Otis told me. I nodded then I blacked out.

I gained and lost consciousness on the way to the hospital. I faintly heard Halstead when we got into the emergency room. I continued to go in and out of consciousness until we got to the operating room. Three hours later, I woke up in another hospital room. Jimmy was there...he had tears rolling down his face. "Baby, I'm okay now. I'm still alive, aren't I?" I smiled as I assured him. He sniffed, wiped his tears, looked and smiled at me and said, "Yeah." We held hands and talked. Once I woke up more, the pain medication started to wear off. I pressed the button to the morphine IV.  We talked more about his eye surgery and the kids.

Two days and three hours later, though I was discharged, it was time for Jimmy's eye surgery, so I stayed behind in the waiting room with Sylvia, the twins, and the Hermann's. Four hours later, the surgeon, coincidentally Dr. Charles, came and told us that Jimmy pulled through! He would have to wear a bandage over his eye for 10 days, but he was okay. We were relieved!
