Two days later, Jimmy and I, with Boden's approval, took Sylvia to Navy Pier. We rode the Ferris Wheel along with the little rides that they had there and shopped and ate to our heart's content.
When nightfall came, Sylvia asked, "Can we ride the Ferris Wheel again, Mom? Dad?" "Sure, baby!" We replied. We rode the Ferris Wheel and were happy. We decided to each get a frozen lemonade on the way out. On the way back home, Sylvia fell asleep in the backseat. Jimmy and I whisper talked to each other and laughed. Just as we were turning the corner, I spotted a drunk driver barreling our way. "Oh my God! Jimmy! Look out!" I yelled. Just as he swerved to get out of the way, which jolted Sylvia awake, the driver hit the backdoor opposite of Sylvia and we crashed into each other, knocking the three of us unconscious.
I slowly woke up to Severide and Hermann getting us out, Sylvia crying, and Jimmy groaning in pain. There was pain radiating from my neck to my hip. Sylvia, Jimmy, and I were, in a heartbeat, out of the car on different gurneys, but going to the same hospital. "Caroline?! Can you hear me?!" Gabby exclaimed. I nodded my head, then asked if Jimmy and Sylvia were alright. Gabby nodded. Hermann and Voight hopped in the ambulance with me. On the way to the hospital, I told them that a drunk driver hit us. "Is the driver already arrested?" I asked Voight. "Yes, he has minor injuries but he is on his way to PD." Voight explained. "Ok." I replied. An hour later, we arrived at Med, Jimmy and Sylvia following on separate gurneys to rooms next to me. I assured Sylvia and Jimmy that I was right here. Then, I lost consciousness.
