"Atticus Finch was a great character and represented justice and good in humanity..." Ms Bass blabbed on.
"He fought for justice for whoever it was, and he knew he wasn't going to win the case, but he wanted to prove justice anyways". What a cool guy. He knew Tom Robinson would lose the case but he fought for justice anyway. The bell then rang.
"Ok students. For homework, I'd like you too answer the question, "Who is Atticus to you?". Ok dismissed.".
We all ran out the room and I made my to my locker.
"Hey Sophia!" I heard someone yelling from a few inches away. It was my best friend Anne.
"Hey." I said opening my locker.
" lunch time." She said.
"You say that as if it's a good thing." I said chuckling. I never liked lunch. Mostly because when I was younger if get bullied.
"Oh c'mon don't be a bummer. We'll hang out outside today. Let's go."
She grabbed me by the hand and we ran to the grass outside. Anne was the only person that new about my pain in the pass. She knew everything that happen to me, about the bullying, everything that happen to me. She knew how fragile I was, and respected that. Which is why I love her.
We then sat next to a tree and ate our sandwiches.
"So, you singing at the Talent Show today?" she asked. Every year the school had a big talent show where Broadway producers will come and see
if any of us are broadway bound. I will never be doing that.
"Hell no." I said taking another bite of my bacon and cheese sandwich.
"Why not?" She said tugging on my leg.
"You are a beautiful singer!"
"I'm shy." I said shrugging.
"Oh no you're not. I'm your best friend, I know you better than anyone else. You are the craziest person ever. Why can't you go up on stage and show your beautiful voice."
"I don't sing that good." I said shyly.
"Oh god girl, yes you do. I've you heard you sing. You can win a Grammy just by showing up."
"Oh please" I said blushing.
"Please sing! Please. Please. Please. Please." She kept in. Until I couldn't take it I finally said yes. She clapped and jumped up and down like a baby. I finished my sandwich and we went back to school.
After that we only had 2 more period which were Chemistry and Algebra. We left home to get ready for the talent show tonight.
I can't believe Anne forced me to sing at the talent show.
I mean, okay, I might be able to sing. But I'm not "Broadway Bound". If you want broadway bound, go look for Idina Menzel or Jonathan Groff. Not me. I don't even know what to sing.
I went to look at my iPod and found the perfect song.
What should I even where? I picked a cute top with a cute skirt. I then left my house to meet Anne at the corner of the school.
"So what are you gonna sing?" She said. She was wearing cute shorts and a beautiful top I needed to get.
"You'll see." I said grabbing her hand and walking in. I was so nervous.
There were so many Broadway casting people. I was backstage. I went last since I signed up last. Literally hours ago. 6 people went before me.
Diana Goerk sang "Don't Rain On My Parade" from the broadway musical "Funny Girl". Kiss up alert.
Sherii Tuman sang "Dancing Queen" by ABBA. Boy did she mess up that song. The casting directors where covering their ears.
Josh Kiem sang "Let me love you" from Ne-Yo. Not bad. He's cute too.
Kiara Newman sang "Come and get it" by Selena Gomez. Not so appropriate.
Lily Jimer sang "Dark Horse". God my ears.
The last before me was Melanie Gimge. Boy, was she a good singer. She was the definition of Broadway Bound. She was perfect. Pretty, ambitious and extremely talented. She wasn't exactly my biggest fan and I wasn't hers. And that's what she hated about me. She picked her signature song "On My Own" from Les Mis. She got the biggest applause after that. Next was me. How am I suppose to top that?
I could see Anne in the middle row winking at me.
" That was very good Melanie! Now last but certainly not least, Sophia Bach!"
I walked on the stage.
"Hello I'm Sophia Bach and I'll be singing Brave by Sara Bareilles.
I then closed my eyes, and pretended I was singing in my room as the band started.
"You can be amazing
You can turn a phrase into a weapon or a drug
You can be the outcast
Or be the backlash of somebody's lack of love
Or you can start speaking up
Nothing's gonna hurt you the way that words do
When they settle 'neath your skin
Kept on the inside and no sunlight
Sometimes a shadow wins
But I wonder what would happen if you
Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave"
Right there I heard the crowd rise up and applause. I started to smile.
"With what you want to say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave
I just want to see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I wanna see you be brave
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I wanna see you be brave
Everybody's been there,
Everybody's been stared down by the enemy
Fallen for the fear
And done some disappearing,
Bow down to the mighty
Don't run, just stop holding your tongue
Maybe there's a way out of the cage where you live
Maybe one of these days you can let the light in
Show me how big your brave is"
I saw the casting directors smiling and I was so happy. Maybe Anne was right.
"Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave
With what you want to say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave
And since your history of silence
Won't do you any good,
Did you think it would?
Let your words be anything but empty
Why don't you tell them the truth?
Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave
With what you want to say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I wanna see you be brave
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see you
See you be brave"
I finally finished the song to a big applause. Maybe even bigger than Melanie. Speaking of Melanie, she was looking at me with a glare. Jealousy.
When the crowd finished applauding, Mr. Plau brought all the contestants up and announced the 2 finalist who will sing for the casting directors.
"And the finalists are..."
He opened the envelope. "Melanie Gimge and Sophia Bach!".
What?!? I'm a finalist! Oh my god. Right there I got off the stage and went to hug Anne. Melanie was jumping up and down. The others had sad faces. I was enjoying until I realized that I was gonna have a sing off with her. She's obviously gonna win but it's worth trying.
I still couldn't believe it though. Me? Broadway Bound? Me?
Broadway Bound?
