Sometime before chapter 6. Anna (Pre-relationship)

"Grah!!!"

I slashed my blade one more time with great force, hitting my target.

I panted heavily as I lowered my sword and examined the damage done to it. Rain poured down, drowning out the rest of the noises of my comrades fighting. I was wet with blood and rain, and my lungs screamed for me to stop fighting.

I continued to push forward.

I was fighting all alone, no one was beside me. I was on my own.

I'm caught again by an attacker, and we clash blades. The foe lunged forward and slashed at my face. I ducked down and rolled behind him, bringing my sword up and cutting his back. The attacker let out a cry of pain and retaliated by cutting at my side.

I faltered and missed a beat. The attacker brought his fist to my face, making me fall back. As a last resort, I used my backup tome.

"ELTHUNDER!!!"

Sparks flew as my hand collided with the attacker's chest. All that was left of him was a sparking corpse.

This is what death feels like.

My legs tried to give out, but I forced them to move forward. My lungs burnt and demanded that I stop. My injured side was bleeding heavily, and blood soaked my clothes. The various cuts and wounds I had gained in the battle stung as the rain hit my skin.

"Have...to keep...fighting..."

I tried to press on, but I found myself blacking out.

The last thing I felt was a pair of strong hands grab hold of me as I fell.

...

The muffled sound of raindrops on the canvas of a tent awoke me.

I slowly opened my eyes and scanned my surroundings. I saw medical supplies, potions, herbs, and rows of cots.

I'm in the medic's tent...

I tried to lift my head, but I was only greeted with a pounding headache and a searing pain throughout my body.

"I see you're finally awake,"

I jumped slightly at the sound of someone's voice. I turned my head slightly to the left to see that the owner of the voice was none other than Chrom.

"I was worried about you, you know?" he said, sitting down next to me and crossing his arms. "How are you feeling?"

Wait...how long was I out?! "...Chrom? H-how long have I been here...? What happened...?" I asked, my voice quivering.

"About two days," he replied. "You took a beating in that last battle, I haven't left your side, since."

Another rush of pain coursed through me. "Two days?! What?! How?!" I panicked. "Wait, the others! How are they?! Are they alright?!" I tried to sit back up.

Chrom placed a hand on my shoulder and gently pushed me back down. "Calm yourself, Anna," he sighed. "The others are perfectly fine. The battle had just finished when I found you, and thank the gods I did!" Now I can tell his poker face is about to break.

"What the hell were you thinking?!" he snapped. Oh, gods...I must have REALLY worried him! This can't be good! "I told you not to go off on your own, but look what you did! Anna, I was this close to losing you!" He clasped my right hand in his and squeezed it tightly. "How many times must I tell you that you can't do everything on your own? Especially battles!"

I grit my teeth and shut my eyes tightly to hold back my tears. "I'm sorry, ok?! I'm sorry I fought to save lives and reduce casualties!"

"Well, we can't achieve that if you're one of the victims!"

I froze at Chrom's words. "...What...?"

Chrom sighed and I looked up at him. "You're a person too, you know. If you die, that's it. No more Anna; she's gone," he mutters. "This pains me so much to say, Anna. I hate the thought of you dying, and I'm tearing myself apart just using it just to prove a point." He gripped my hand tighter, and I felt warm tears fall upon it. "You're not a one-woman army, Anna. You can't do things on your own. You can't falter because of your stubbornness. I don't want to see you hurt. Please promise me that you'll be careful. Promise me that you'll come to me if you're having any trouble. Please?" The painful look in his eyes tells me that he means every one of his words.

I took a deep breath and squeezed his hand. "I promise."
