Hey guys ...here's the 5th chapter . Enjoy ! ( Here's a sketch of Uttara!)

Uttara's Point of view

(PAST)

"Papa! You are home! I thought I won't get to hear our favourite bedtime story tonight." I said sheepishly. "How could I ever miss that?" My dad chuckled. He seemed tired tonight but to keep my heart he tended to my request.

He tugged me inside the cot, sat on the bedside chair and recited the customary tale that he claimed to have heard from his grandfather. "Uttara, you are a grown lady now and the tale that I had been telling you isn't all rosy." He cleared his throat and continued, "Rudra & Raag weren't always the best of brothers; remember honey the world has enough for a human's need but not for his greed. Rudra was desperate to expand his kingdom; his half of the land wasn't as fertile and prosperous as Raag's. But Raag's army was difficult to combat; the only way to do so was to team up with his foe. As expected, Raag sent for his brother's help when the attacker struck him off guard. Raag and Rudra fought shoulder to shoulder, a vow made by a brother to the other. But the facade soon disappeared when Rudra clashed the sword against Raag's. Trauma stricken brother felt an ache on his chest which disabled him at the battlefield, the kingdom was lost and so was his brotherly love.

Raag and his wife Satyagni were kept at the dungeons where they were neither tended to nor respected. Raag's condition was worsening, Satyagni loved him too much to let him die, and the only way out was to trade her flesh in return for some medicine and food that could help him revive. Every night she would mix a sleeping pill in her beloved's meal so that her torments remained a secret to he who loved her for eternity. For she could bear disrespect in the eyes of those animals but not the one she chose to love. She shuddered at the sound of the keys as it was indicative of another need. This constant gratification bruised her body but not her soul. What shattered her soul was that gruesome night when her consort's pill betrayed her. His eyes set upon her in disgust when he heard her desperate moans to another insolent person. This agonised her for ages as her husband's wrath seized the cages. The love had vanished and so her respect, she was framed as the scarlet woman by her very swain."

(PRESENT)

Suddenly I heard a snap and my chain of thoughts broke. Kartike had snapped his fingers close to my ears to disengage my gaze. "So what's up? You seemed to be dazed again that too in absence of music." He said before I could give a snort of disgust. "I was just thinking about what she said." I looked towards Latika while responding, who was in a deep slumber now. "This should do for tonight", said Mohit as he made our lounging arrangements at a Motel we found in the streets of Karol Bagh( In New Delhi , India).  The Motel was empty as expected so we took the freedom of taking two room keys and settling ourselves before we head out for clues or more such deductions tomorrow. We sat together for dinner that we had fetched on our way to the Motel. Each of us had gained composure now though that anxiety and feeling of helplessness was hard to let go. Kartike and Mohit seemed to have a huge appetite as they continued to gobble down their food without a word. I wasn't used to silent dinner tables, not a day would go by when my papa and I didn't engage in an intriguing debate so much so that we would bang our plates with our spoons subconsciously without realising the mess we left for my mama to clean. I told them about our customary tale but what I kept from them was the prophecy it entailed which my father felt was a banter created by my great grandpa but little did he know that the old man wasn't such a bonehead. As I lay in my bed I recited what was once said,........

"The forbidden urn holds the wrath of the king long dead

If unleashed it is the inferno ahead

The black queen has risen to avenge her king

Released after centuries, torment she brings

Four shall bear the brunt of the broken vow

To shut the box, the time is now

If not, destroyed with their final breath

Their fears combined worse than death

Their choices will decide the days

The world to preserve or raze."

..........................................................................................

So that was the 5th chapter.  Do comment to let me know your views on that prophecy !!!

Until next time!
