"Chief! It's time!" I roll my eyes and whimper to myself a little. I really don't want to do this, but nevertheless I must. I mean, it's only going to be us talking, right? I step out and make my way to the council hut. The second I step inside there are flowers in my face. I swat them away and keep walking, there are probably about seven or eight guys in hear, and the all want to talk to me. They are all talking at the same time I can't figure out what anyone is saying. One guy pulls me into dance, I pull away. My heartbeat is starting to raise, I'm getting more and more anxious with every moment I'm around all these boys who act like pirañas. They all start pulling me left, right, and centre. I'm getting sick to my stomach, I have to get out of here. I go for the door when I'm yanked back. Some random dude has his mouth on mine. I feel his tongue force it's way down my throat. I choke and push him off me . I run from the hut and up the forest to the top, I grab a bunch of vines and fruit on my way. I get to the top and don't even think before I jump down to the hidden lagoon. If anyone can find me here, it's only one person. I swim to the shore and start building, I still have plenty of daylight left and it's really warm now. I use the vines and make myself a hammock, I hang it up and pile up my fruits in the cave. Using my last few vines I weave together a strong rope, in case Maui ever gets stuck down here without his fishhook again. I take a seat but that doesn't help my anxiety right now. I drop back in the water and scrub out my mouth. The feeling of his tongue makes me want to puke.
"Moana!?" I hear the village people calling me. I quickly duck back inside the cave.
"Chief?!" They all call. I don't respond, I don't want to be found. I sit against the wall and try to calm my high blood pressure. I grab a green coconut and pierce it with a rock, I slowly sip the coconut water from inside it. The yelling fades away as the search party dissipates back down to the village. I am the chief, and I'm hiding.
"Wow, bet your proud of me now huh dad?" I look at the water.
"Ugh, what is wrong with me?" I put the coconut down beside me and drop my head in my hands. The village will be ok for a few days without me, the elders can make things work.
Who am I? I know that, but now what? My head snaps towards the lagoon as I hear a chicken scream. There's a splash and the ocean brings the chicken to the shore.
"Hei Hei?!?" I whisper shout, not wanting anyone to hear me. He walks forward and sits beside me, pecking at a rock. I take a few more sips from my coconut and finish it off. I strip the fibres apart and lay them out to dry, they'll make the fire easy to start for me. I look out at the water, how it's pushes and pulls, the ability to move any which way it feels. To be boundless and free, I wish I was free like that, but no. I am stuck in a cave, hiding from the suitors who are all crazy! I just want to leave, I want to leave and never come back.
"Maui, hurry up please."
With a sigh I pull my hair over my shoulder and lean against the stone wall behind me. The sound of the water and the clicking of Hei Hei soothing my anxious mind.
