Te Fiti? What am I doing here? I walk along the beach and look around, everything is beautiful but something feels... off. Like it's just not quiet right, like something's changed. Into the forest I find the problem, one of the trees has a weird blackness on it, the disease that sent me from my island on that fateful quest. Why is it back? I mean, the hearts been restored right? The closer I look the more I see, the blackness is spreading again. Dread and worry fills me, is Te Fiti ok? My feet hurry me to the location of her heart, my heart and stomach both plummet, it's still here, but there is an arrow beside it, covered in blood. The disease starts growing and covering everything around me and immerses me in darkness, I swim in a sea of blackness with nothing but the blood covered arrow at my feet. It's too calm too quite, until I'm physically yanked forward by absolutely nothing at all and...
Everything goes black.
I woke up with the sound of a heartbeat drumming in my ear, weird I could have sworn I fell asleep sitting against the post in the centre of the hut. I stretch my shoulders slightly and open my eyes, of course all I see is hair.
"Morning," Maui says softly as I brush my hair from my face. It's now that I realize I'm sleeping on top of him, that was his heartbeat I woke up to.
"I'm confused," I sit up slightly, looking around, head still fuzzy from sleep. "I fell asleep over there," I pointed. "And I woke up here," my brain is not processing anything right now. Maui chuckles, drawing my attention back to him.
"Well I wasn't just going to let you sleep on the floor, so I thought we could share the hammock," he said slowly and quietly, smirking cockily at me, I nodded my head in understanding. I sat up properly and stretched my arms and neck, my neck let out a loud popping sound. I sigh and lie back down, feeling a little more awake. Was it really just a dream? And how long was I asleep for this time? Surely less than three days.
"Moana?!" A voice calls from outside the hut, mom. I stand up hurry to the door, glancing back at Maui once before heading out. Mom runs up to me but she has a baby in her arms I don't recognize. She hugs me with her free hand, using the other to hold the baby on her hip.
"I missed you my little minnow."
"I missed you too, and who's this?" I pull the small child onto my own hip, she laughs at me and stretches her back a little.
"This is Amanaki, her mother is very ill and her father refuses to leave her side, so I'm watching her until she recovers."
"Well I can watch her," I turn to the baby in my arms. "Can't I?" Mom laughs at you.
"Well I could use a nap," I smile softly at her, noticing the bags under her eyes.
"Take all the time you need," I say, she rests her head on mine for a moment, she sighs and takes a step back. She bows her head and turns toward her hut. No one is around but I still bow my head in return. Before looking back to my own hit just in time to see Maui heading out the door. He spots me and stops dead in his tracks, probably unable to figure out where I got a baby from. I laugh and head towards him, introducing the child on my hip and the situation on why I'm watching her.
"What happened to not being chief?"
"I can 'not' be chief and still lend a hand where is needed," furrow my brows at him. He just laughs.
