December 13
Olivia is at a party with James. She grinds against James and parties hard. She has built a wall so high, not even her own boyfriend can see through it. She won't let anyone in anymore, she can't. She pretends she's fine and pushes all of her emotions away. But on the inside, she is a grenade, ready to blow any second. Just one person, one sentence, one word, one second could break her. Break her wall. Break everything she's worked for. Josh sees right through her but he doesn't understand. He waits up every night for her. Hoping to reach her but she's too far gone. She has dug her grave and is ready to lay in it. She's so gone that not even a miracle could save her.
Josh is the one left to take care of the house and his family. His mom spends her days in bed and on rare occasions she will get up to get food. Josh is left to make food for his mom and sister. He sings his sister to sleep every night. He doesn't have time to hang out with friends anymore. He walks into the school. Everyone pities him. They look at him like he's a sad puppy. Teachers give him A's on failing tests. He heads into the gym for basketball practice. He isn't half trying. Jaden passes him the ball. He throws the ball in the basket and misses.
"Put your elbow in," a voice calls. He remembers Justin teaching him that trick and his sister watching as Justin helping him.
"Josh!" the coach yells.
"What?" he asks as he comes back from the memories.
"You okay?" coach asks. He shakes his head.
"No, I can't do this anymore." With that he drops the basketball and leaves the gym.
"You can't quit the team!" He turns around.
"Yes, I can," he says. And with that he leaves. He walks home and waits at Monica's bus stop.
"Josh!" she yells happily as she gets off the bus. She runs over to him and jumps into his arms. She is his life now. He focuses all of his energy into her. He uses her as a distraction from the pain that is locked up inside of him. Each night, he unlocks that pain and cries himself to sleep. He dreams of fond memories of Selena. Memories will randomly enter his brain and he pushes them away. It hurts too much. The pain is all too much for him.
Justin and Caitlin are in the Morgue. Justin looks through the files. He pulls Taylor Swift's file out.
"The page is missing from here too," he says.
"She died the same way, Selena did. Says here that she was raped days before her death. Selena wasn't raped," he continues. Caitlin looks to him.
"Justin, I wanted to wait to tell you...I just didn't know how. Selena was raped too," she says. He looks to her. He then finds Selena's file. He finds the page about the rape and he reads it. Tears fall from his eyes.
"No!" he cries. "No!" He throws the papers. He then grabs another file and throw it in the air. "No!" he shouts. Caitlin puts her arms on his. His hands shake. She steadies them and pulls him into her arms. He sobs into her arms.
"We are going to find who did this and he is going to pay for it."
Josh sits in the kitchen. It is past midnight. Monica is fast asleep. Olivia walks in the door. But she is not alone. James is with her. She kisses him and drags him into the living room. She starts removing his clothes as they make their way to the bedroom. Josh watches them with disgust. He remembers when Olivia taught him how to play monopoly. She would play with him every day after school. It was his favorite game. She always choose the book, he choose the football, and Selena choose the purse. They are different people now. They have both built up their walls. They are both ready to break on the inside. They both have changed for the better or the worse.
