Most households at this time were getting ready for the day, however the Hamato household had to be the loudest family on the block. Of course having 5 kids doesn't help tone down the chaos but only makes it much more hectic, especially on the first day of school.
On this Thursday morning, Tang Shen was busy making lunches and gathering lunch money for those who didn't like her pb&j sandwiches. Yoshi left work early that morning so she was left to deal with the 5 young ones herself in their 4 bedroom, 2 bath home.
"Ma," her oldest daughter, only daughter at that, called from the top of the stair case, "where's my sweater?"
For New York they sure had crazy weather sometimes.
"Hanging in your closet, that I had the courtesy to do myself," she called up, she stayed up a little later than usual the night before to finish up the laundry, make sure everything was dry and each one of her children were going to school with fresh clean, and new clothes.
"Thanks ma."
"No problem hon-"
"Ma!" She was cut off by her third oldest.
"Yes Raphael?"
"Where's my gym bag?"
"Down here by the door, where it should be."
"Thanks ma."
Tang Shen smiled awaiting the next call for her that would surely come. Which it had, her second youngest Donnie asked for his permission slip to join a club at school, and her oldest son, Leo asked her where he had left his camera for photography club. Now she awaited for her youngest to ask her where he left his skateboard or if he was getting lunch from school or not.
Lunches packed, and breakfast set out she called down her 5 kids. Overhearing an argument between her oldest sons over who got the bathroom next she listened for it to calm down, seeing if she would have to intrude. After a good few minutes it did settle down, and an irritated Raphael came stomping down the stairs, dressing in his varsity red and white hockey jacket, buttoned 3/4's the way up, and a pair of loose jeans, his bright green eyes piercing and dark brown hair messy.
Joining his 3 siblings at the table he muttered something about Leo being a butt. Instead of scolding her son for using such an innocent insult (still an insult nevertheless) she shook her head turning to her youngest son.
"Are you nervous for your first day of high school?"
The light brown haired, blue eyed boy looked up at his mother shoveling cereal in his mouth and grinning. He was dressed in his usual clothes, a tank top under a flannel, skinny jeans that appeared loose due to its longness and his shortness, and to top it off a orange beanie (the only type of hat they were allowed to wear at school) plopped on his head, most certainly covering his bed head he didn't want to deal with.
"Yeah but I have a feeling this is going to be a better year than last year."
That made Tang smile wider, for her youngest had so much confidence that this was going to be, in fact, a better year. Which they all hoped.
Last year Mikey went through some difficulties, dealing with some kids at school. It was hard to see the youngest Hamato in such a dark place, because ironic enough he was the one that always made everyone else smile. He joked a lot, and was-is a naturally happy-go-lucky person. This year was a new start with a new school.
"I'm glad to hear that, and I'm sure it will be."
"If we have lunch together Mike you can sit with me and April," Miwa spoke up, always willing to help her younger siblings.
Mikey grinned wider, swallowing another mouth full of cereal, "awesome, thanks sis."
"Finally!" Raph exclaimed as Leo made it down the steps, "you take hours."
Leo rolled his eyes, "it wasn't even 10 minutes Raph."
The 16 year old teen turned to his mother standing on the other side of their island, "morning ma."
"Morning my sweet, excited for school?"
"More or less," Leo shrugged giving her his signature smile.
Leo had dark, almost navy blue eyes, and dirty blond/light brown hair, brushed back. He wore his grey jacket over a simple shirt, his hood was up over his backwards SnapBack hat, jeans and swung around his neck was his Canon camera.
"About you, Miwa? Donnie?" Their mom wasn't usually formal, she would use their nicknames often.
"Eh, school is boring. I'm not happy to go back but I'm not necessary unhappy since I am a senior now," Miwa shrugged, moving her black hair back behind her ears, her dark brown, mistakenly black eyes looked back at her.
"I understand," Tang Shen nodded.
"I'm excited for all the clubs I can join now that I'm a sophomore," Donnie smiled, his black thick glasses sat on the ridge of his nose, brown hair tamed and dark brown eyes looking identical to the dark chocolate sweet.
Miwa wore a thin white sweater over her white flowery dress with a pair of yellow flats that matched the color of the inside of the flowers. Donnie wore a grey sweat shirt, sleeves rolled up, and on the front it was printed with big white letters NYC, then a pair of jeans like the rest of his brothers.
A meow caught everyone's attention as an orange and white cat jumped up on the kitchen table, Mikey instantly grabbed for her.
"Klunk you know better," he scolded, his frown melting away when she started to purr and rub her face against him.
"Here," Tang Shen set down two pills in front of Mikey.
It was his ADHD meds.
He took them, downing them with orange juice.
10 minutes later Mikey rushed upstairs to grab his skateboard, Raph went out the door with his bag barely hanging from his shoulder, with the rest of their siblings trailing behind them.
