Chapter 19 – Surprize at school

I walked into school the next morning dragging my feet along the path not being bothered at all, I met Mollie halfway and we walked into the school gates together, she could tell I was still upset and tried to distract me by not talking about Jay or the others, especially Nathan.

“So who do you think will be hooking up with who this term?” Mollie said trying to start a conversation because were both silent, lost in our thoughts.

“Probably Jake and Holly” I said referring to Mr and Mrs popular who had liked each other for ages just never done anything about it. The conversation died down again as we walked in the front doors, we got a few strange looks from other girls in the years below us and a few guys were looking at us, they had obviously heard about Nathan and I, Mollie and Jay, it didn’t help that they probably also knew Nathan had kissed another girl and I was the pathetic girl on the side.

We walked to tutor only to find a sign on the door saying there had was a whole school assembly arranged, they obviously had a big announcement or something to make; they hardly ever did a whole school assembly unless there was something really important going on. It was pretty busy when we got there so we made our way through the crowd to find our class who were all chatting rather loudly. I tried to ignore the stares of everyone although it was rather hard when they were whispering and pointing trying to be discreet although failing miserably.

It seemed to take a long time for the principal Mr Lewis to walk onto the stage and calm everyone down, although it might have just been me being paranoid.

“Right everyone settle down please. First of all I would like to say welcome back and I hope you all had a very nice break. Now however, as much as you might hate it you need to concentrate on your subjects especially everyone in the last year” he said looking in our class’s direction, I looked at Mollie and she looked back smiling although I could tell she was bored.

“I know we don’t often have whole school assemblies like this but today we have a very special guest who wanted to speak in front of you all” he said smiling. I hoped it was someone interesting and not some police officer telling us the importance of cutting down gang crime. Mollie was sat upright trying to get a good view of who it was although she looked at me with a strange expression.

“Now he’s asked not to be hassled so please contain yourself as I welcome one fifth of boy band The Wanted – Nathan Sykes” Mr Lewis said clapping and walking off stage as Nathan walked on taking his place. Girls around me squealed and took their phones out snapping pictures, if this had been before I had met Nathan then I would probably be going crazy right now, but with everything that had gone on I slumped in my seat and ignored the people looking at me. Why did he have to show up at school? Out of all the places it had to be the worst because everyone knew who I was.

“Thank you for letting me come here today” Nathan began, trailing his eyes over every student until he found me, I looked up but when I saw him looking at me I quickly looked away, I couldn’t look at him in the eye without wanting to cry.

“In the holidays one of you came to one of our concerts and I couldn’t take my eyes off you, we soon became inseparable and I was proud to call you my girlfriend. But when I went to the US a few days ago something happened and now this person won’t talk to me and I really need to explain” Nathan said talking into a microphone someone had given him, I eyed Mollie who just shrugged and pointed in the direction of Nathan who hadn’t taken his eyes off me since he had spotted me. Mollie had obviously know he was coming and I almost got up and walked out of the hall but something held me back; I guess I just wanted to hear what he had to say because he was so desperate.
