Arthur and Merlin stayed lying like this for a while. Just lying side-by-side, Arthur holding Merlin's hand against his heart, Merlin's head on Arthur's shoulder. They just lay there, content to live in that moment. Eventually, the sun started to lower.
Merlin went to get up, to find them something to eat. When he tried to move his hand, Arthur was clasping it against his chest, having fallen asleep. Merlin gave up trying to free himself and settled back against Arthur. This time, though, he didn't rest his head on Arthur's shoulder.
At one point, as Merlin was creating flowers with his magic and resting them around Arthur, Arthur's head rolled against the tree, causing his lips to be beside Merlin's cheek. Merlin hadn't known, so he turned his head to see what had happened. His nose was inches from Arthur's lips. He smiled when he saw Arthur's face.
He made some more flowers with his magic and tied them together magically to make a flower crown. Then, Merlin used his magic to gently rest this crown on Arthur's head. All the while, he could feel Arthur's heartbeat through his other hand. It made him almost lose his concentration twice while he made the flowers themselves and twice while he placed it on Arthur's head.Eventually, Arthur awoke. When he did, the sun had been down for half an hour, and Merlin had fallen asleep. Arthur looked at Merlin, smiling. He looked adorable. Then, he remembered his hand holding Merlin's against his chest. He blushed slightly and let go of Merlin's hand, which slid down Arthur's torso. When it came to a rest, Arthur blushed even harder. He looked down to Merlin and something slipped slightly from his head. He carefully lifted whatever it was off and looked at it. It was a flower crown made of purple chrysanthemums. Arthur smiled when he saw this. The fact that they were purple forced Arthur to acknowledge that they had been made by magic, which made him smile even broader.
Carefully, he stood from beside Merlin, still holding the flower crown. He leant down over Merlin to rest it on his head. As he did, Merlin awoke. Surprised at Arthur's proximity, he stayed as still as he could. When he felt something rest on the top of his head, he smiled involuntarily. Arthur didn't see him smile.
Merlin made sure to keep his eyes shut and, as he felt Arthur move away, he made his face look at peace and emotionless. What happened next made him smile involuntarily again, but also made him blush profusely.Arthur P.O.V:
As I pulled away from resting the flower crown on Merlin's head, I caught sight of his perfectly shaped cheekbones. I felt deeply attracted to those cheekbones and couldn't help what happened next.
Blushing profusely at what I was about to do, I pressed my lips gently against the top of his left cheekbone. Then, in kisses, I traced his left cheekbone, before proceeding to trace the right cheekbone. That's when I noticed him blushing. That's when I realised that Merlin had been awake while I had done that. That's when he opened his eyes, which were their beautiful blue-green colour.
I backed away, blushing profusely, stuttering apologies and almost tripping over a tree root. In fact, I was almost lying on the ground after tripping when I suddenly wasn't falling. Merlin had reacted instinctively to stop me from falling, by using his magic. Both of us were blushing like there was no tomorrow.
I lifted myself out of whatever spell he'd casted to stop me falling and walked back over to him, before helping him up.
"Come on, Mr Sleeping Princess," I joked as he stood. "We should probably be getting back to the castle." Then, we mounted our horses. The return-journey to Camelot was uneventful. However, upon our return, George was waiting for me.
"Sire," he started as soon as I had slowed the horse to a stop.
"At least let me get off the horse, George," I moaned to him, cutting him off. Behind me, Merlin struggled to stifle a giggle.
"Of course, sire," he uttered, hurriedly helping me off the horse. I saw him glare at Merlin disdainfully.
"Don't look at Prince Merlin like that, George."
"Of course, sire. Sorry, sire."
I helped Merlin off his horse, then turned to George, my arm around Merlin's shoulder. "Now you may speak," I sighed to him.
"Sire, you missed an important council meeting," he finally expressed.
"Why was it important?"I asked.
"Because you had called it, sire."
Merlin obviously couldn't hold in his feelings any longer as he burst out laughing. George thought this was hilarious - not - and ignored Merlin. I sniggered as well, but not for the same reason as Merlin had laughed for.
"Well, I forget now why I called it. Give my apologies to the council. I am going to be wanting extra food at supper tonight, George. And make sure that you set a place for Prince Merlin, as well."
"Of course, sire," George replied. "Will this be in your chambers, sire?"
"Naturally, George. Now, ensure that everything gets done. As quickly as you can!" This sent George scurrying off to get everything done exactly how I had asked for it.
