"Mama we were talking about Romanticism in class today."

"Yeah? How was it?

"Whats a Soulmate?"

"It's uh....well it's like a best friend but more. It's the one person in the world who knows you better than anyone else. Someone who makes you a better person- actually they don't make you a better person. You do that yourself, because they inspire you. A soulmate is someone who you carry with you forever. It's the one person who knew you and accepted you. Believed in you when no one else did or when no one else would. And no matter what happens you'll always love them. Nothing can ever change that."

"Is that what you had with Mommy?"

I smile and kiss Emma on the temple. How did we go from talking about a class assignment to Emma's mother; my ex. 

"Alright babe, back to your assignment." I say as I place a small snack next to her on the counter she giggles and continues typing on her laptop "So did you and Lia decide what you wanted to do for your birthday?" I ask.

"Yeah, since they just moved into the new place I think we should totally break-in their new pool! I already asked Mommy and she said we could but she said she's gonna talk to you anyway."

"Ok, when I talk to Mommy I'll run it by her."

"Does this mean we're going to California?!?!" she has a huge grin on her face

I laugh whole heartedly "More than likely we're going to California, yes babe! Alright, go put your stuff in in your room and wash up for dinner. It'll be ready in five."

Emma gathers her things, she stops in her tracks and turns back around facing me

"Mama?"

"Yeah babe?"

"Was Mommy your soulmate?"
